Weekend Flair #16 - Chair Fix Up

I LOVE fabric, however really do not sew.  The patterns, textures, colors... oooh. Just makes my heart pitter patter. Add my love of fabric to my long no-so-lost secret desire to reupholster something, and this little chair didn't stand a chance. ;)

I decided to start with something small, figuring if I wasn't successful, no huge loss.

I found it for a mere $6.00 at a local thrift store. It was already pretty darn cute, however this fabric needed to go. It also was on some sort of swivel mechanism what was wobbly, and screeched.

Just this last week I found the perfect fabric and decided it was time.

I got it taken apart, and started pulling staples.

The fabric I had was not going to work with the black, thus spray painted it white.
Note: I'm not good at spray painting. Yeah. I don't know how it can be so difficult, however somehow I make it one heck of a challenge

While that was drying, I started cutting and tacking down fabric.
The seat was actually fairly easy to cover. The back, not so much.

I finally gave in to the fact it wasn't going to be without a little bit of wrinkle. Thus, the perfectionist in me made sure the wrinkles were even.

Okay, now typing that, I sound crazy! :)

I'm super happy with how it turned out!

Chair - $6.99
Paint - $5.99
Fabric - $10

Ugly chairs, watch out!

Have you ever completed a chair makeover?

  1. Have you ever seen the blog Better After? http://betterafter.blogspot.com/

You should submit your project pics - your chair turned out great! Super cute! And you made it look so easy.

  2. That is SO cute! I love it, and you made it look so doable too. I'll definitely be back to see what you come up with next :).

My photography is available for purchase - visit Around the Island Photography and bring home something beautiful today!

  3. You did a GREAT job! In the sewing world, those wrinkles are either called gathering or pleats - - depending on how they look. Arranging them evenly was the proper thing to do.
Your time and energy were definitely worth the finished product!

  4. That came out GORGEOUS! In DIY land, I think getting over my fear of furniture is my last hurdle to conquer. I can do wood, but reupholstery scares me!

  5. Thanks for stopping by my blog!!

LOVE your chair. That fabric was a great choice!

  6. LOVE it! The fabric the paint, it all turned out perfectly! I would love to see this linked up to my VIP party tonight if you have time. Otherwise it runs every Friday through the weekend =) Hope to see you there! http://designergarden.blogspot.com/2011/04/vip-party-10.html
