Weekend Flair: Wall of Plates

I randomly would see ideas for Plate Walls on Pinterest, and loved the simplicity, patterns, and COLORS!  I  began collecting plates from thrift store adventures and after several months, decided to give it a try!

Honestly, I didn't measure. I'm terrible at measuring. I organized the plates on the table below, and then starting with the one in the middle, started attaching them to the wall with simple plate holders.

It took about an hour, however I really love the results. I love that I can switch it up, really anytime I find a plate I like more.

Super easy weekend project!

What creative project will you be doing this weekend?

Welcome to my art studio

The the fall of 2009, I had a series of posts related to renovating the swimming pool craft room in the basement. The final post in the series topped off the experience of adding and moving walls, electrical wiring, adding a beautiful floor and finishing it off with a good old painting!

For those of you who haven't seen the post, here is what I moved in to:

Here is what it looked like when it was finished:

Yes. Take that in for a moment.  :) It really was a great transformation.

Over the last couple of years, I have added, moved around, taken out, put back in all sorts of things. I'm pretty proud of where it is today. While it is pretty much always in a state of disaster, I figure the messiest people are the most creative, right?!

Generally, this shows what organization and stuff on the wall can do for a space.

The last couple years has also brought to light that I am not a scrapbooker, or a card maker, or just a DIYer.

I am an artist.

Welcome to my art studio!

Getting ready for spring!

With the snow finally melting over the last few days, I have had a bit of spring fever! I decided our front door needed a bit of color (to balance out the the long gone brown flowers in the pots next to the door). I'm liking it and am excited to find new flowers each season!

What do you do to get ready for spring?

Livingroom Reveal

Quite some time ago, I asked for some help with my livingroom space.  Well, better late than never, here is the big reveal!

BEFORE

Alan was visiting his family for a weekend, and suddenly I had the urge to just take care of our dull gray/brown livingspace, right now. I went to Menards, bought paint, came home, pushed everything to the middle of the room and went to work.

AFTER

It still isn't 100% where I want it to be, however it is so much better than before.  Basically, a couch cover and a gallon of paint made a huge difference!

A couple things I still would like to change, but can live with for now:
  • Find a rug that matches the colors and theme
  • Take out the carpet (which will involved cleaning up the mess of hardwood floor underneath)
  • New furniture
  • New curtains/window treatments
  • Paint the trim
  • I also feel the walls are still missing some beautiful decor, I just cannot place exactly what.
  • And as long as we are being super ambitious, I would love to add three -four 1'x1' windows near the top of the wall where the clock and majority of white flowers are.
As you can see, there is a lot I would love to do, however paint is cheaper than new windows and moving walls!

Please help our livingroom!

Problem One:
When we moved into our home, our living room is currently a dark grey/brown/lets mix everything we have left from the rest of the house together so we have enough to paint this, color

Is is dark and dingy. It spans three walls of our living space, and into the "sitting room" which we use for our piano and china hutch.

Problem Two:
Carpet + Puppies. Need I say more? They do not have accidents any more, however they roll in the dirt outside and then come in and roll on the once nearly white carpet. It now looks like crap. We purchased a large rug, however now the rug, and around the rug looks ish. When we pick up the rug to look under it, one can definitely tell there is a "dirt line".

Question One:
What color(s) should we repaint? I want something light and airy without being too much.

Question Two:
Take up the carpet? Or not? There are wood floors under, however the corner of the carpet I peaked under, it appears whomever tacked down the carpet used plenty of staples. I don't want to rip up the carpet on to expose a mess of a wood floor.

Visuals:

I do like the idea of a beachy theme.

I recently picked up 2 of these clearance side tables.

I have had this for a while, LOVE it, however haven't found the perfect spot. Will our livingroom fit?

Please... anything. I am uninspired. We are on a very low budget... like really, at this point we can only, maybe, afford the paint, and time to rip up the carpet, so nothing fancy!

THANK YOU!

Weekend fun

It was a great weekend. I spent Saturday with my friend, K. We ate at a great burger place, walked around downtown, and then enjoyed a beautiful park with a waterfall.

Sunday Husband and I worked in the yard and garden!

Our Veggie Garden... potatoes, tomatoes, broccoli, lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, peas, corn, peppers, and yes, I did sneak in strawberries and watermelon :)

Dakota and Jaffery didn't help with the gardening much.

Husband and I.

I LOVE that some of our flowers and plants just come back every year.

Dakota is always worried about squirrels.

Then we went canoeing. We even took Jaffery with us (we found him a life jacket, and do not yet have one for Dakota).

After our boating adventure, I took Jaffery to the edge of the lake, with his life jacket still on, and worked with him in the water. He isn't completely sold on the idea of playing in the water, however he did at least try to amuse me :)
