Episode 2: Toilet Trauma

When we left K, she was waiting to see if her dad would be reinstalling the upstairs toilet after the entire household had lived about 36 hours without it. A repair job that was supposed to take a couple of hours had already morphed into a two-day project. She hoped and wished that the project would soon be complete.

As she sat on the couch that night watching television, she heard the bad news. The contact cement had set and was holding the tiles in place, but now the grout did indeed need 24 hours to set. The toilet would not be returned to its proper place on Monday night.

So, there was another morning of dodging the other people in the house and waiting for her turn to use the downstairs bathroom. The good news was that the toilet was no longer in the bathtub, so at least that was usable. K's dad had the day off on Tuesday, which she hoped would afford him the opportunity to finish the toilet repair job.

She returned home on Tuesday night to find that there had been yet another set back. Something to do with the tile or the wax seal or something. She would have to endure yet another day with only one available toilet in the house. "Arrgghhh!!" she cried out in frustration!!

Finally, four days after the project began, the toilet was put back in its place on Wednesday evening. K could hardly believe it was finally happening. Ah, the satisfaction of pushing the lever down, the sweet flushing sound, the marvelous sight of the swirling water. All of these filled K with joy and hope. For, it is the simple things in life that are important - a place to call home, family, friends, laughter, and functional plumbing. Definitely functional plumbing.

The Bathroom Chronicles - Part I

Crazy Daisy's friend "K" here. We used to work together and have become good friends over the last several years. We especially enjoy entertaining each other with dramatic stories of the random things that happen to us in our every day lives. As it turns out, this is perfect blog material. Since I don't have my own blog (though Crazy Daisy thinks I should), she asked if she could post the story of one of my recent adventures on her blog. The following is a true story, though any references to specific people or places have been changed to protect the innocent . . .

Episode 1: Five People, One Toilet

It all began early on Sunday morning. K lay sleeping soundly in her bed. Unbeknownst to her, her dad was in the bathroom next to her room . . . wreaking havoc. The idea was to replace a leaky wax seal around the bottom of the toilet. He removed the toilet and put it in the bathtub, rendering both of them useless.

K awoke to the sound of a vacuum. She put a pillow over head only to be awoken once more, this time by a knock on the door and a request for her hair dryer. She went back to bed, figuring she would just get up when the bathroom repairs were complete. Unfortunately, it was not to be.

12 noon came around, and she had to get out of bed. Her dad was nowhere to be found, though the bathroom radio was blaring and the light was on. She called him on his cell phone only to find out that several pieces of tile needed to be reset, so he was off to the hardware store to get some contact cement. She wanted so badly to wash her hair, but as the toilet was in the bathtub, she could not fulfill this desire.

Her dad eventually returned, applied the contact cement, and relayed the news that the cement takes 24 hours to cure. "24 hours!!" K cried. That meant the whole family - five people - would have to use the one bathroom, with the shower curtain for a door, downstairs. As you can imagine, it was very upsetting.

K went to the YMCA so she could take a shower. She managed to cope fairly well that first day, once she got used to the idea of the toilet in the tub. Oh, how she wished her dad had given her fair warning early that morning before he started his work. She and her mom did have one minor success, however, when they convinced him Sunday evening to take the toilet out of the bathtub, so at least the tub could be used. He moved the toilet to a washtub in the hallway.

Monday morning came. She thought things would be fine as her brother usually slept all day and her mom would leave to go work out. Only, her brother foiled her brilliant plan. As if by some miracle, he was up at 8:00 AM, occupying the toilet-less bathroom. She waited, so she could put her hair back and get to her toothbrush. Finally, the bathroom was hers. Now, as most people do when they first get up in the morning, she also needed to visit the bathroom with a toilet. Only, she knew her brother generally made several trips up and down the stairs in the morning to pick up things he forgot or put things away. The bathroom with shower curtain was dead center in the journey between the kitchen and the upstairs. She figured he would be done and out the door soon, so she would wait. And, did she wait. She waited and waited. She heard him come up and down the stairs at least three times. She saw him warm up his car outside and shut it off again. She waited and waited. As anyone knows, everything feels 10 times longer when one is waiting for the bathroom.

Finally, after several false alarms, he left. Sweet relief. She went off to work where she knew they had at least three working toilets on each floor.

Monday night, she returned home to a house with one toilet. Now she waits. She waits to see if the tile can be set and the toilet returned to its home. She imagines horrible scenarios in which she finds out that the grout needs 24 hours to set before the toilet can be set in its place. What will happen next? Stay tuned . . .

Wacky Web Wednesday - #14

I just about roll on the floor each time i see this one! Happy Wednesday!

How did I get to you?

I love, yes L-O-V-E, finding new blogs. For me, it is like curling up with a good book, or talking to an old friend. It brings comfort, emotion, friendship...

It is interesting how I come across a new blog. There are those I have search for. Yes, I may have google something and came across you. Other times, I have just taken an entire evening and clicked on my current reads blog roll to check out some new sites. It is amazing how quickly time passes when catching up on a few new blogs!

I participate in a few weekly carnivals, and enjoy a good blogging party now and then and find these are great ways to meet new people.

However, the most exciting way to find a new blog... something new... fresh... something different from what I read now is when I click on a blogroll link, read a little, click on a link in their post, read some more. And then "OOH, that one looks interesting!" click! Click Click Click! Then before I know it, several hours, and blogs later I realize I have no idea how I ended up at the page my firefox window is displaying in front of me. My adrenaline is pumping just thinking about it!

Thursday Thirteen #3

Thirteen things to NOT do before an interview... 1.... Do not plant flowers the night before. No matter how hard you try, there will still be dirt in your finger nails. 2... Do not wait until the night before to pick out what to wear. What you want to wear will be dirty and you will have to stay up late to wash it. 3... Do not stay up late the evening before your interview (if you missed it, refer to #2). 4... Do no think about the other job you want to apply to. It becomes very confusing. 5... Do not do anything crafty. If you do, you will end up with marker/paint, or some other random blotch of purple on your palm. 6... Do not get there an hour and a half early. You will be bored and become more anxious. 7... Do not wait to use the bathroom. Go plenty ahead of time (no - no problems here today, I'm just sayin'). 8... Do not plan anything else for the day. You will be tired after and want to rest. 9... Do not convince yourself you are to nervous to eat. Yes, you are nervous. However, I assume you do not want your stomach to answer the questions for you. 10... Do not assume you will want to wear your interview clothes the rest of the day. Do pack something else! 11... Do not attempt to eat yogurt while driving to the interview. This will only end badly. 12... Do not practice questions on the way to the interview. 13... Do not be nervous. Sure a little is okay, but find your happy place. :-) ... I cannot say I experience ALL of these today, however am embarrassed to say I did experience a few... What have been your interview hiccups?

Seven Random Facts about Crazy Daisy:

1. I do not have a favorite color. When trying to decide on a wedding color, I couldn't. I ended up with 5 bridesmaids and 2 flower girls and they all had a different color dress.

2. I used to live on Mt. Dew. I am too embarrassed to say how many per day. Now I drink mostly water and feel SO much healthier.

3. My high school graduating class was a whopping 17. Yup. Seriously.

4. I really don't like dark chocolate. I mean, it is okay. However I wouldn't just go buy a pure chocolate bar, or a box of chocolates. I am okay with white chocolate in moderation.

5. I also don't like cake. Even as a child I remember asking my mom for treats other than cake on my birthday. Eventually, it became tradition to order me a birthday ice cream cake!

6. In high school, I dyed my hair a crazy color of red for Halloween. My boyfriend and I dressed up like Mulder and Scully (X-files!)! The was a temporary 30 day one that lasted much longer than that.

7. I can play the piano, clarinet, trumpet, and violin, but only the first 3 very well.

97, 98, 99...

This is post 99! WOW! When I started this blog as one of my birthday goals, I had no idea it would go this far! Who knew I had so much to say!?

It has been a crazy week all around! Here are a few snippets of what is going on in my life!

• My parents visited last weekend to attend an award banquet I was part of. It was SO nice to have them there! I made it through my thank you speech okay! However, my anxiety was through the roof!
  
• My professional poster presentation was last night. It was nice to see everyone in my cohort again. The presentation itself was good. I'm happy it is over!
• Our apartment is sweeping the garage, thus we had to move our bikes. There is no bike rack outside our apartment, so we had to bring them to our livingspace. Ick.
• My friend K is coming for the weekend! We plan to scrapbook, watch HGTV, and maybe a little window shopping!
  
• 14 days until graduation! I'm so excited, however it will be so weird not being on campus, well that campus, any more!
  
• So far nothing on the job front. I have mixed feelings about it. I want to wait for that perfect job, and I like the idea of having a few down weeks after graduation. However I'm very nervous that in 2 weeks, I will no longer have a paycheck!
  
• I feel like with everything going on, I haven't had a lot of time with my husband! Usually we hang out, watch tv, play a board game, or the Wii. Lately, it seems like we just haven't had that quality time. :(

Happy Green Day!

In honor of Earth Day,I could write a post about going green, recycling, or saving the planet one day at a time. However been there, done that. Plus I'm sure your readers will be full of tips, thoughts and ideas on how to save our planet.

Therefore, I decided to write a different kind of green post in response to my "What do you want me to blog about" poll and the results.

A few days after posting the poll, I asked my husband if he had voted. When his look back at me was something along the lines of "wouldn't you like to know", I knew something was up. With a lot of prying, it finally came out.

Husband: What was your poll about?
Crazy Daisy: I wanted to know what people like to read on my blog, or what they would like to see in the future.
Husband: What were the options?
Crazy Daisy: Well, I had several. Graduation, crafts, daily stuff that happens, other, and green stuff.
Husband: ...Green stuff, huh? (about now a cheesy grin came across his face)
Crazy Daisy: Oh geez. I mean things like recycling and saving the planet, not crayons!
Husband: Well, I didn't know that. You should have known I would vote for green stuff.

Well, this conversation went on a little longer and we both ended up with a good laugh. The thing is... my husband's favorite color is green. I don't mean he kind of likes it and maybe has a few shirts in the shade. He LOVES green.

So in his honor, today I write a post about:

Green stuff.


Let's see. Glancing around our apartment, there is green everywhere!


I love plants. We have many in our house, however some (not pictured) are more brown than green.




We also have a small patio table with green tiles! We picked it up a couple of years ago at Kmart on clearance!



With our wedding colors spanning the entire box of colors, we of course included green! We had a difficult time finding all the colors on the flowers we wanted (daisies and a few roses), so we spray painted several white flowers to be green!




A green pillow case my mom made for my husband (he also has a matching quilt).




Our table cloth is green, of course!



Being Apple computer users, there is no way we wouldn't own a green iMac!



And then the CD player, and iPod are green.

Crocs: Love them or Hate them?

I guess I don't have strong feelings either way. It is a shoe. Sure, there are shoes that are nicer, or more comfy, than others. However, I'm on the fence with crocs. What about you? Do you LOVE them, and have them in 25 colors? Or do you believe they are the most ridiculous thing ever?

Well, at first I thought "You've got to be kidding me!? Heals?" However, after the initial irritant wore off, I considered that as a person that hates uncomfortable dress shoes, maybe, just maybe...


And then there are crocs with laces.


What is the point of wearing them if they have laces?



Then I have found, there are not just croc shoes.
There is an entire line of clothing as well!
