One for the ladies!

For the last couple of summers, Alan and I have the same argument...

------
Kim: I'm going to cut that stupid plant down.

Alan: I thought you said it was an elephant ear plant?

Kim: I said it looks like one, however that doesn't mean I want to keep it! I'm going to cut it down.

Alan: No, you are not. It is nice having things that come back every year.

Kim: But it looks stupid, and ugly and it over powers everything else.

Alan: Leave it. I like it. It looks like it is going to flower soon!

------

I eventually give in and leave it. It is extremely ugly. It had never flowered... until this year... :)

On Thursday, I grinned to myself, took the following 2 photos and stayed quiet.

On Friday, with his head held low, Alan approached me.

------

Alan: I think I'm going to cut down that plant.

Kim: Now, why would you do that?

Alan: I think it is a cocklebur plant.

Kim: (*Trying not to smile, too big) Oh, Okay.

I think he enjoyed cutting it down a bit much. However I let him have his fun, being I won this one ;)

Life is like an Orchid Show...

It is nice to be alone to gather thoughts.

Sometimes we need a friend to stand by.

Though sometimes everyone's support is needed.

Sometimes things are looking just okay.

Yet often a different angle gives new perspective and brightens the day.

Sometimes the road is bumpy; things are different and not what we expect.

Yet we need to take a closer look at what is really in front of us.

Sometimes what is found may surprise.

Life is like an Orchid Show...

Unedited.

Colorful.

Real.

Beautiful.

Fall Flowers

This last weekend was great. I actual was able to leave work at work (mostly) and just enjoy.

Saturday, I starting doing some cleaning in the kitchen. It was needed. I have been behind on dishes, and sorting mailf ro some time now. It is quite embarrassing. I only got some of the cleaning done, as the afternoon, Husband and I ended up just enjoying the day. We watched some TV, played with Dakota, and went to Home Depot for some new outlets (needed to replace a couple in our house).

We also bought a new vacuum. I had been debating it for awhile. Our still works okay. However, Dakota had chewed through part of the cord, and I knew it wasn't cleaning as well as it could. We ended up getting a vacuum that was specific for pet hair. It it amazing! I vacuumed with our old one and then right away with the new, and WOW.

Sunday, we cleaned the garage. I had planned to finish the kitchen, however with the weather off and on rainy, and snow (yeah, I know the 4 letter s word) just around the corner, we decided the garage was much more imperative. We also cleaned up in the yard, picking up leaves, branches and draining water hoses. We have the rain barrels to empty yet, however are nearly ready for winter (well, in outdoor prep, not personally!)

Husband also replaced the outlets in the house (2/3 of out outlets were grounded, however only 2 prong... prong? is that correct? Looks funny).

Anyhow...

October... We are working on saving $$ for the holidays, cleaning our pantry, and sorting through stuff making trips to goodwill and posting many items on craigslist! What are you up to this month?

In my backyard...

I love our backyard!!! What do you have in your backyard?
(if you post about it on your blog... I'll link up!)

i love summer and savings!

We only have strawberries, tomato, and now lettuce coming up! I was so surprised and pleased to see this over the weekend! I can already taste fresh strewberry pie! mmmmm!

With us purchasing our home just in November, I had no idea what all flowers, plants and what not would appear. I have had my surprises of what all has sprung up! Most of the spouts have turned out to be foliage, however this one put a smile on my face!

I also try to go through coupons on Sunday. Husband and I made a quick run to Target, picked up a few groceries and between coupons and sales (and some items had both), we did super well!

I clip and save each and every coupon (well, minus a couple I send my family). Yet, I always end up with many that either I don't use because we don't use the product, or because it is just something we don't need. What do you do with your extra coupons? I hate tossing them, however really don't know what to do? I have now sorted out all my 'May' coupons and there are so many I won't be using!

For the sake of the plant, please help!

I love plants and flowers. Unfortunately, being in an apartment, we have limited space near windows and our deck. Regardless of space and my not so green thumb, I manage to keep a few around.

However, the last 3 years, I have purchased a Candy Corn Vine.

It is SO adorable with these tiny candy corn flowers.

However, each year, this happens.

The leaves turn brown, and crispy, (not always from the tip up), it stops producing flowers, and then it dies. I don't know what to do. I have tried little water, more water, bigger pot, smaller pot... any ideas?

Oh, and while we are saving my plants, any ideas on how to save an orchid?

Sick Day

Yesterday, I had a tickle in my throat, a bit of a headache, and felt a little bit sleepy. I was trying to ignore it, drink extra water, and heck maybe I was in denial of being ill. I didn't sleep much last night, and my throat continued to get worse. I made it to work today and managed. Yet tonight, I have had my soup and am ready for bed. Hopefully tomorrow will be a brighter day.

Only in the depth of winter...

As the temperatures today dipped plenty below zero, I long for those days of flip flops and daisies...
