As I sit here trying to pull myself together because my dishes are unwashed, my Etsy store is empty, the laundry is piled high, and my dogs have left traces of fur all over the house, I find myself curious how my students get by day to day. While I have no idea the condition of their dishes, laundry, or furniture, I do know they are full time students working 20+ hours a week, often using the money they earn for rent and to care for family members. Loans are usually taken out to pay for school and if there is anything left over, they eat (this is why I keep a stash of juice boxes, granola bars and the fruit of the season in my office).
How can they be so damn motivated while life is spinning circles around them? Sure, some of them trip up, get behind, fail a class - yet with a little push, they are able to keep moving forward.
Huh. There it is. "...with a little push...".
By day, I work at a community college as an "Advisor" to a group of at risk students. Some call it "intrusive advising" however it has also been known as: advisor, counselor, mentor, butt kicker, and part time mom. I meet with my students every week during the school year, and keep in touch over the summer. I make sure they are in class, turning in their homework, and wisely spending their financial aid money. Whether they like it or not, I challenge them, encourage them, check up on them, push them.
"...with a little push..." they are staying on track. Their lives are absolutely crazy, however somehow, they make it.
It is possible all we really need is someone who is always there? Someone making sure we are staying on track?
It is possible, "...with a little push..." we can all reach our goals and dreams?
Note: While this blog has had a heavy focus on crafting
and photography, I wanted to try a little something different to
mix it up! Thanks for hanging in there with me! I want to "keep it real", however find it hard to balance what to share about my work and personal life beyond art. I would love to hear
your thoughts and how you balance what you share! ~KK

Hello! Wow! I'm actually writing a post!? Weird :) I was getting a little too used to scrapbooking or crafting up something, taking a not-that-great-photo in the icky basement lighting, posting it up, and done!
If you have been following my December Daily, do not fret! I'll get 21-25 posted next week, after the craziness of the holiday season :)
I'm excited for the holiday, but not the crazy. We will be visiting family, and will be taking Dakota and Jaffery with us. While we LOVE our puppies, and they actually travel well, they can be a handful in new environments, especially those with cats. YIKES!
huh... what else am I excited for?
- everyone coming together, laughing, loving, enjoying time spent together
- the amazing food
- seeing my grandma
- seeing my nephews opening their gifts - the joy in their eyes
- time with Alan. While the car ride length stinks, we get to actually talk and spend time together during the long drive
- the quiet time away from the city - where I found my One Little Word last year!
- the quiet time just at home with a few days away from work!
- starting my 365 project again after a year break! This year, I'll be using Project Life!
- time to catch up, reflect and plan for the new year!
What are you looking forward to?
Anyone else participating in the OLW project this year? Have you decided on a word?

Summer update
The summer is flying by. Seriously. Who in the heck is in charge of the fast forward button? I really need things (at minimum, the weekends), to move a little more slowly!
Things are going, okay. The amazing glimmers help balance out the craptastic moments.
Last week I found out a previous supervisor has terminal cancer. I basically tuned out of life for the rest of that day. I wasn't sure what to do. I mean, really, what can you do? We had last met for coffee (hot chocolate for me) in October. She found out in November. They told her 6-12 months. In Feb they still said 6-12. In May they said less than 6 and stopped doing scans. She didn't want to be a bother, so she didn't call. I felt terrible for not knowing, for not calling her to say hi. I'm going to try and visit her several times in the coming months. She doesn't have a lot of family, and I want to be sure to be there for her.
Our garden is planted and moving forward at full speed. I'm actually quite excited. This year, we planted a few new things to try out. I also harvested 3 whole green beans. It appears there will be a bunch ready in the next few days! The recent downpour of rain has been both a blessing and a pain in the bottom. On the upside, we water less and our water barrels are full. The problem is that the garden has been a little too wet in places, and the heavy rain even knocked over some of the plants.
I have kinda fallen behind in my One Little Word Project. I have been thinking about my word however haven't started my June project/assignment, let alone July. I have been taking weekly photos, just haven't posted them for awhile. One thing with this project I have kept up on is taking a few small, but manageable actions. For example, I have noticed how stressed my Blog Reader makes me. I always log in to find 1000+ items unread. I feel bad just deleting them, however I also know I'll never keep up. Instead of simply deleting the unread, I have been slowly going through and unsubscribing. I am trying to do through 2-5 a day. It is nothing personal, however I have to prioritize. Now I still have HUNDREDS of blogs on my list, however I just cannot keep up with all of them.
Another item on my simple list was to relax and enjoy simple things. I often get so wound up in life (husband, puppies, work, family, friends, cleaning, the yard work...) that I forget to sit. Last week, for example, I found myself with a long list of things to do. Yet, after weeding the garden, I sat in the hammock for a good 1/2 hour. It was wonderful. I realized in those 30 minutes that I needed that break. It was only a few minutes, however it helped me recharge, regroup and reflect on what is really important in life.
However, things do not always go so smoothly. For example. Today after work, Alan and I picked up a few things at the store, came home, went through the mail and then I sat in front of my home computer trying to check my emails, facebook, twitter... I was ticked off at it because it wouldn't connect to the internet. I wondered around the house, hoping a few minutes it would fix itself. I complained about it to Alan. Then, I saw Dakota and Jaffery sitting by the window. I said out loud, "Why don't you two go play outside? You sat by the window while we were at work all day. Go play!" I quickly stopped in my tracks. I sit at a computer all day, and I come home and am ticked off because my internet will not connect? WOW.
I found these amazing key caps from Natural Life. I limited myself to only getting 2, however I am really wanting to get enough for all my keys. The designs are so cheerful and makes finding which key opens which door much easier!
I was picking up my clothes, and Dakota seemed quite interested in my scarves. Therefore, I took the opportunity to make both him and Jaffery feel a little extra beautiful.

That is my crazy life update! More in the coming days!

FYI: this is not a professional blog
... in case you haven't noticed, my posts are sporadic at best. Topics, frequency, photos vs no photos...
I'm learning to be okay with that. I mean, I never thought I would be a professional blogger, however I did have hopes I could be consistent in posting. I wanted to use this space to document life, to share some specifics things with readers (ie: Compassion letter tips and craft ideas) and to post photos to help myself become better at sorting, editing the hundreds of photos that I have, as well as become a better photographer in general.
I still want to do these things, however have realized my life, mood, schedule, and priorities are too random for me to stick to anything very scheduled. I do hope to become better, however I have a giant to do list, my house is a disaster (I'm too embarrassed to share photos), and I'm very behind at work (I was out of state for a work thing, and stayed a couple extra days).
I hope to share a few things with you in the coming days, however lets just both agree that likely isn't going to happen ;)
Instead, I present to you a run down of a few of the topics I would love to write about, however in reality will not..

- Crazy work month of May... Students graduated/transferred, and a few are staying. Now have reports to write, and new student applications to read though.
- My battle with laundry.
- My work conference stunk. Yeah. The first day of the workshops (all 10 hours of it), all I remember learning was the other participants names, and the 2nd day the instructor insulted my profession and graduate program, starting his sentence with... "now this is most likely going to offend some of you..." It was a long 3 days
- On the upside, my coworker and I enjoyed going out to eat in the evenings, and staying up late laughing at stupid tv shows
- Alan met me after the conference and we enjoyed a few extra days away to celebrate our 7 year wedding anniversary! It was super wonderful
- I'm still in a different time zone (hence being up after 1 am... not good)
- I started not feeling well the last day of the trip. The flight didn't help. Went to the dr today, who was also little help.
- I'm hoping to plant my garden this weekend.

the speed of light
It seems life is whirling by at the speed of light, while I am struggling to keep up. My posts have been very lacking lately. As you can see here, I'm lucky to find my computer under the mess, let alone actually have time to write something 1/2 brilliant.
I have been working to pull together my sister's baby shower. I'm super excited for it, however I feel very unorganized. This is untypical for me. I am usually fairly organized for things such as this. As of tonight, I have everything packed up and ready to transport the 8 hours. We are going home this weekend for both the shower and Easter. It will be a jam packed time.
April and May at work have always been demanding, however I'm really feeling it this year. It is both demanding and the "same old stuff". I have been getting easily bored and irritated. Don't get me wrong, my students are amazing and I work with some great people, I'm not always learning/growing and that is frustrating for me. I love my job, but need to figure out a few things.
Other than the above, my laundry is not caught up (not even close), dishes are dirty in the sink, the floors haven't been vacuumed, and there is a giant pile of papers/mail where the counter used to be.
This is my life. Unorganized.
This doesn't have to be my life. I'm looking for Simple. Balance. Clean. Healthy. Peaceful, Joy. Friends. Family. Knowledge. Happiness.
I will get through this weekend and see where I land. That is where I will start from in finding where I want to be, where I will find Simple. Balance. Clean. Healthy. Peaceful, Joy. Friends. Family. Knowledge. Happiness.

My New Mappin' BFF
I am a giant fan of google maps. Anytime a new destination is on the itinerary I diligently plan out my route using this man made god given gift to those without an internal compass. It has been a long time BFF.
However I have a new love.
Mr. Garmin (MG for short) arrived over the holidays. I was instantly excited but hesitant. It is hard to give trust to someone new.
However recently I had to pick up Alan from a work function. Instead of printing out pages of google maps we put MG to the ultimate test. Alan entered the address before we left for work that morning. After work, I took a look at MG for the first time. I had not ever used it before. I didn't look to see where I was going. I turned it on, changed the voice to "British" and away we went.
My heart was racing and I was actually a bit nervous I didn't have a back up plan. I really had no idea where I was going.
However, within an appropriate 20 minutes of simple, clear, perfectly timed directions, I had arrived at a destination. I called Alan to let him know I had arrived; low and behold, it was the correct place!
I am hooked. Not only on the British voice, however I bid farewell to Google Maps.
I look forward to many road trip adventures, near and far, with my new mappin' BFF.
My only complaints thus far... the price of extras, including the map updates and that my house is not in the correct spot.
This is not a sponsored post (don't I wish)... I really just LOVE MG that much! :)

Over the last while, I have...
- Started a garden in a spare bedroom. We anticipated being able to plant things outside last weekend, however the weather has not cooperated with us. The started pots are overfilled with plants needing to be moved outdoors!
- Started doing a lot more cooking and baking. In the last couple of months, we have only purchased a couple loaves of bread. I have been making all bread from scratch!
- I event found a yummy garlic pizza crust recipe I have used several times!
- Again gave in, and clicked "read all" on my google reader. My hope is, to this time, decide to keep reading, or delete the blog from the reader.

- Adopted a puppy!
- Purchased a new washer and dryer, to find out the dryer didn't work (ever!) and then go 3 months without a dryer! --yes, finally, we have a dryer that works, however it is not green. The green one was determined to be an expensive metal rock.
- Tried to clean, however found it was easier to watch TV.
- Regretted all the time spent in front of TV.
- Contemplated how to take back my counter space. We have an issue with our paper... receipts, mail, and stuff seem to pile up and never go away.
- Found out how annoying it is to have my eye twitch, for 6+ days.
- Found a great website for coupon swapping!
- Saved a lot of money... spent a lot of money.
- And so much more...
What have you been up to?

I LOVE spring
Last weekend I planted broccoli, lettuce, onion, pepper and (something else that I cannot remember right now) seeds in the little containers. Instead of buying all plants this year, we decided to save even a bit more $$$ by planting the seeds instead!
We are likely a bit behind, however this is okay. I had planned to plant the rest of my seeds today, however planting flowers (seeds and bulbs), doing errands, cleaning out the garage, and washing the puppies filled my day. It was a great day though. I wish I could have gotten a little more done, however over all I'm pleased.
I'm curious if anyone here has ever had an 'issue' with Sears, or a Sears Outlet. Our dryer has been determined to be "non-repairable". Yes. It never worked and after they sent the repair person out multiple times and replaced pretty much the entire machine. It still doesn't work. We purchased a freaking metal rock. Not happy. I'll post more on this later...
Over all, things are going well, just super busy. Work is crazy, however I am enjoying working with a new co-worker. I was hesitant at first, however it has worked out well. Plus, it was great to have someone's help with the end of the year craziness going on. I also found out I will get to walk with my students at graduation! I'm super excited (though that likely makes me sound geeky), though concerned I'll almost just blend into looking like a student graduating. I'm often mistaken for a student worker in the office!
OOH. If you haven't been to Michaels lately, now might be just the right time! I was there yesterday and they have nearly everything on huge sale or clearance! It was FUN, and I could have purchased so much more, however restrained myself to on spending $30.00!
Well, that was all kinds of random. It is good to be back! :)

Nothing like a month break
- Still without a dryer. It has been over a month. I'm tired of having my stuff hanging all over the house!
- Going to visit family this weekend for my dad's birthday and Easter.
- I have been baking up a storm; making my own bread, buns, dinner rolls, pizza dough and trying new meal recipes. It has been a lot of work, however I believe in the long run, worth it!
- I have been stressed with stuff... work, family, life... however working to just be happy with life and move on
- I have been sewing off and on. Grandma would be proud!
- Coupons have become part of my life in a big way!
and finally
- We took Dakota to the store a couple weekends ago, and told him he could have anything he wanted...He choose Jaffery. We gave in an adopted a new member of the family

Isn't he adorable?! :)

Dear Saturday
I have missed you and appreciate your much anticipated visit. Yet, with your arrival, I have found additional tasks that need completed. If you could stick around long enough for me to finish the tasks (laundry, dishes, coupon sorting, shredding, and budgeting) and then just a bit longer for me to also enjoy an hour of 2 of scrapbooking... that would be wonderful.
Thanks much,
~Kim

Welcome January!
Hello!
Long Time, No Blog!
Yeah, I have been slacking. Life is crazy, and continues to be, however I am really wanting to document the craziness! :)
We made a quick trip to SD (photos to come!) for the holidays. Thing is, there was 11+ inches of snow, a lot of ice, and wind that prevented us from going anywhere on Christmas. Instead, Husband, Dakota and I went sledding in the backyard for xmas eve, and they bundled up indoors with our movies and hot cocoa for xmas day! It was different, and we missed our family, however it was also nice to not be running around everwhere and just enjoy our break. Once the storm let up, on Monday, we left for SD. We visited our parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters... it was great. Dakota also had a great time meeting new people, and puppies!
We returned to MN for New years, actually driving back on New years eve. It was nice to be home, doing laundry, dishes, and just trying to catch up.
Here I am, now, Sunday night, not wanting to go back to work quite yet. I had been hesitant in taking so much vacation time, however I needed it. I'm a little nervous about going back to work to see what messes I'll have to clean up, and I could use a few more days to go through my laundry, and piles of junk, however I haven't found that time machine yet :)
I wish you all the best, and I look forward to blogging more often!

Woo Hoo!
My CD came today!
Whoa... back it up...
Last night, Dakota kept us up much of the night. He took turns between waking husband up and then me. Ugh. It was a long night. He seems to not be feeling well. I'm not sure what the deal is. He seems to get sick easily.
This morning came much too quickly after letting him outside (for the final time) around 5am. However, the day overall, went really well! My students are really amazing! I seem to be a bit addicted to work lately. It is just so hard to disconnect when my students inspire me so much!
Around 4pm, I started getting super sleepy. I took a mini break and checked my email, finding out my CD had been delivered! I was instantly pumped. Yeah, I know. Sounds ridiculous, however I'm a huge music lover! Music can instantly make my mood..., well, obviously I guess!
I rushed home after work. Let Dakota outside, and put in the CD. Dancing around the kitchen! :)
I did make a little progress around the house... putting up a few more decorations, moving around some laundry, sorting through a few papers on the counter. I knitted a couple rows on my current scarf, made a couple birthday cards, played on Facebook...
Have a great week!

What a wonderful day!
Though I stayed up until nearly 3am, and then sleeping in plenty late, today was a great day!
I was able to get some of the housework done; the basics... vacuuming, dishes, some laundry... It was also nice to spend a little time outside with husband, helping clean up more leaves! Now, I'm not really ready for snow, however at this point, I suppose it is November, we have only had one snowfall so far, and once it snows, I don't have to worry about the leaves! :)
I ordered a CD from Amazon. I haven't purchased a CD for SO long, however this one wasn't available on iTunes...
Husband and I also ended up at the mall. We are not huge mall shoppers, especially this time of year (i have decided that I would be ready for holiday decor and music, IF it wouldn't have already been around for the last 3+ months).
We did a little shopping, however overall it was just nice to do something a little different, and get out of the house!
We also picked up some ice cream and a few groceries for the upcoming holiday weekend!
Once home, we lit a fire in our fire pit, and sipped hot cocoa in the backyard. It was great.
Now, already after 10pm, I'm both tired, and wide awake. I still have a list of things I would like to work on; scrapbooking, a bit more laundry, sorting this last weeks mail, conference session proposals... i'll see. I might just sit around for the night!

Trying to Catch Up
As always, life is crazy.
I have about a gazillion things in my RTM list.
I have coupons all over the kitchen counter.
One of my bestest friends, Tink, is moving in less than a week.
I haven't seen (or emailed) my other bestest friend, K, in a long time (K - we need to set up a movie night, and/or scrapbook weekend... fruity happies might be involved... )
I do not have all my beloved blogs in a reader.
Our computer is still full and I have to upload a couple photos at a time, edit, print, delete. This is not working. Husband is working on a solution, however when I'm on the computer, he cannot fix my computer photo problem.
I'm back on the caffeine habit and my body is ticked off about this.
I have photos to edit for my great aunt.
Photos to upload, organize, edit and print for my photo 365 project (I haven't printed any since freaking MAY!)
Then, there is this room in our home. An extra bedroom. We moved into our house last November and this particular room holds all the boxes and junk we haven't wanted to sort.
Therefore, I may/maynot blog this week, or so. Oh shock, right? :) Yeah, I know, I'm not very consistent anyhow. Yet, I try to be here are least now and then.
Anyhow. I would LOVE to hear how you all tackle the to do list. Right now, I am just going to open it up, and go down the list, taking anything marked priority first. After that. Just one after another until it is all DONE.
My RTM list does include some blogging, thus I'll be here, however it might be a little random.
Heck. I guess it will just be a normal couple of blogging weeks for me then :)
Haha! I guess, nevermind.... ;)

I do not use a blog reader.
Yep. You are reading that correctly.
I have meant too...
I just find it easier, in the moment, to bookmark the blog...
Thus, now I have hundreds of book marked blogs...
It is out of control...
In the name of organization and using my time wisely...
I WILL set up a blog reader...
I must.

Our boring life
Hello. What a crazy week.
Dakota has been on meds for an upset stomach. He was getting better, however once the meds were gone, he started getting sick again. This week, we ended up being in and out of the vets office. Lot's of xrays, tests, and definitely money later, we are hoping he doesn't need surgery. He seems to be feeling better!
Today, Husband and I went to a birthday party of a good friend! Sure, we have plenty to do in the house, the yard... yet, we needed the mini get away. It was so much fun. Great food, fun games, and great to visit our good friends!
Well. really not much else has been going on. Work. Home. Work. Home.
Sure, Life is busy. Yet it seems to be the boring norm.
I'm working on a couple other posts for next week. So far, they seem much more exciting than this one. I try to remind myself this is my blog, my way to document what is going on in our lives. And yeah, I suppose, it sometimes is quite boring.
Thanks for hanging in there with me! :)
