Dear Saturday

I have missed you and appreciate your much anticipated visit. Yet, with your arrival, I have found additional tasks that need completed. If you could stick around long enough for me to finish the tasks (laundry, dishes, coupon sorting, shredding, and budgeting) and then just a bit longer for me to also enjoy an hour of 2 of scrapbooking... that would be wonderful.

Thanks much,
~Kim

Ham for Turkey Day!

Yeah, We had ham for Thanksgiving! :-) Though this isn't unusual for us, so many give me a strange look when I say that I am not having Turkey for turkey day!

It was a nice weekend. My husbands mom and sister, and my mom and sister (and sister's friend/bf) came to visit! It was so nice to see everyone! We ate, slept, ate, slept, and repeat every day for 4 days.

Today, after people left, husband and I put up our outdoor lights! We didn't have anything to put up outside last year, as we had just moved in, however we did cash in on the 75-90% off holiday decor after the season! We still do not have a lot, however we enjoyed it! We have one more tree to add lights to, however, tomorrow we will work on putting up our indoor lights.

Well, I'm sleepy and have a few other things to do! Have a great week!

What is your vision of love?

Leslie at Love Street recently posted about relationships. I wanted to comment then, but couldn't quite put my thoughts together.

Here is my attempt...

I always had this vision of love in my head, my mind's eye. I admit, it was a bit "prince on a white horse" kind of vision, but it is what it is.

I went through a couple minor relationships, of course ending with heartbreak (and finding out how terrible some guys are). Sure I was super young, but I was left vulnerable, unsure of myself, not sure if I could trust another guy, yet searching for someone to love. Something I walked away with from these couple super early relationships was "If your gut tells you something isn't quite right, something isn't right." Another one to note would be "If someone tells you, from their perspective, something isn't right, at least consider their point of view".

Not long after these crappy endings I met this guy...
This guy was my price charming. The long version of the story is, well, long, so maybe another time. We have been through (coming up on) 11 years of our lives together! So much has happened.

We have changed, our relationship has changed. Yet here we are.

When we were first married, someone told me to "never go to bed mad". HA! If we would have lived by this, there would be all kinds of sleep lost. We took a step back and instead decided we always say goodnight. Yes, always.

Well, sometimes husband falls asleep the moment his head hits the pillow. However, I say goodnight, and he wakes enough to mumble "g'night"... Even when we are livid as the heat of the sun, we force out a ticked off "goodnight!".

To me, this is love. It is the simple things, like going out for lunch, dreaming about a future house together while sprawled in the grass, or making a point to be together and do something special on our monthly anniversary!

Love is an interesting thing. It is curious how one's vision of love can change over time. Is it maturity and age? Or is it more life experiences that bring about the change? What about family circumstances?

What has impacted your vision of love, and how has your vision changed over time?

Spur of the Moment Lunch

Around 11:30 am today, I recieved an email from my husband asking if I was free for lunch. I was thrilled that though my day was busy, I didn't have any set appointments!

It was nice to just go out, even if for a quick lunch. We have both been stressed and a little edgy lately, so it was nice to have a few relaxed moments together. Plus, with it being our 29th, it was an extra kind gesture!

Weekend Project

I forgot to take a photo before. This is from about 1/2 through....

And after...

Can I Pweeze have a treat now?

Who knew a puppy could be so spoiled?

We did some cleaning today and a friend and her fiance stopped by for lunch! It was a good day, however went by way to quickly!

Another random update

How was your holiday? Ready for the New Year?

We have had a lot going on, with the holiday, still unpacking from our move, work, Dakota... plus Husband and I have teamed up and been working on a little bloggy surprise... life is busy!

Husband and I traveled to South Dakota to visit family. We had an adventurous time, especially with puppy Dakota. He decided the comfy back seat with his pillow and blanket wasn't good enough. He instead sat between us nearly all the way home. The last hour, he crawled in the back and seemed quiet. Needless to say, he ate our Nibs.

On the way back, during one of our puppy stops, Dakota found a good pile of snow, ran up it, lay on his back, and slid down the hill with his feet in the air. Over and Over. It was hilarious!

Husband and I exchanged gifts after Christmas once back home. He couldn't have done better. First, I opened this:

Then, my handbag weakness was fed with this beauty:

Even Dakota got me something:

We also hit up the local stores trying to find after holiday deals. Michaels and Target were the best. I got these for 60 cents each at Michaels.

This ribbon was also only $1.00 each! Amazing!

Sunday night, we grabbed takeout... Dakota LOVED it!

On Monday, the 29th...
  • Dakota ate through the laptop computer cord
  • Dakota chewed through a 2nd collar
  • Husband and I went to Marley & Me. When we returned, Dakota had excaped from his kennel... he didn't make any messes, or tear apart anything... however after we were home for 5 minutes, he make a huge mess...
  • We also attempted to take our photo next to the Christmas tree. Husband and I have taken our holiday photo next to our tree for several years as part of the holiday tradition. This year was no different. Well, almost. Many, many, MANY photos later, we still didn't have a photo with Dakota looking at the camera. The last shot somehow startled him. He ran under the tree and, well, below is the very last photo

Stay tuned for more updates!

What a ride...

Wednesday, November 26 - Husband and I both took the day off work. We continued to pack, and after taking Husband's sister to the airport for her Thanksgiving journey, we went to OUR HOUSE! It was all ours. As we opened the door, there was a sence of amazment rush through my body. We ran through the house, checking out each and every room. Then, reality sunk in... we still have to move in! :)

Our families arrived later in the evening. We moved a few things over (including beds and towels) and all spend the night in the new house!

Thursday (11-27) - Thanksgiving! I have so much to be thankful for! A wonderful loving husband, a supportive family, a beautiful house, a silly puppy... wow. It was a great feeling to wake up on Thanksgiving Day in my new place! We moved much of the day (technically, it was a lot of work, but we only moved about 20 miles)!

Friday (11-28) - We just hung out. My parents had to return home (after a quick run to a couple stores), however husband's family was able to stay one extra day. We went to the mall and a couple stores.

Saturday (11-29) - Our monthly anniversary. We did a little more shopping with Husband's family before they headed home. Otherwise, we enjoyed our time in our house. We picked up some more puppy stuff... yeah, it is sad how spoiled our little Dakota is already!

Sunday (11-30) - Grilled out on our new (well, new to us, thank you craigslist for making this affordable) grill! Husband did some errands as I put away more stuff. It has been amazing how much junk I have found.
Monday (12-1-08) December? When did November run away? Geez. Back to work. It was hard to return to work after so many days of anxiety, joy, excitement, fun, and family time.

Tuesday (12-2-08) - I can't remember... how sad is that? :-) Went to work. Went home. Walked puppy a few times. Oh, he has a very bad problem with nipping/biting. Any ideas? Sure just a puppy, but it needs to stop! Oh, also, any advise on how to 'social' him with other dogs? He is afraid of larger dogs and barks at little dogs...

It started snowing like crazy before we went to bed. I did a little preventative scooping, however it didn't do much good.

Today... well, not much new. Husband had to get out the snow blower this morning... so much for "just an inch of snow!"

I stayed a later after work to use the campus wi-fi, as we do not have internet at the house. It seems the previous owners didn't disconnect their services, and until the disconnect, we cannot connect! Geez.

I have been updating my twitter, including photos, at least daily, from my cell phone! Be sure to check on that!

The walk

Going into work each day I park in almost the same spot, walk the same path, have the same beautiful walk into my office. Each day, I think, I love working here. I love this walk from the parking lot. I love the trees and park around campus; everything is so pretty. I love walking the halls and hearing the students chatter between classes. I love my job.

Well, today the walk between my car and my office stunk. It felt crappy, and I didn't want to go in. I was dreading it. I would love to share more about it, however have to be quite careful with what I share online. In the end, I LOVE my job, but have a challenge. The day ended up being okay, at least better than yesterday, however it is going to be tough.

After work, Husband and I went out for burgers and fries for our 29th. It was nice to go out. It provided a nice opportunity for us to chat about everything. Our jobs, our house... just everything. Even after being married for over four years, having our monthly "dates", it is still a much needed mini getaway. Sometimes we have to squeeze it into our schedules, sometimes we don't feel like going out, or doing anything different, however it is always worth the extra effort!

no clever title

There is so much happening in our lives. It makes me nervous. I hate "not knowing". Sure, I am excited about getting a job, buying a house, having a puppy.. however I get anxious when there is something I want (aka: house), and may not be able to control outcome of.

Today we decided we want to move forward with one of the homes we saw this last weekend. It was one that we had our eye on for awhile, and then after seeing it, it feels like home. However, our hesitation is that we hadn't planned to make an offer on anything this soon! We truly figured it would take a little more time to feel good about a house. We are SO excited about getting a home... getting this home. However we are a month early, which means we still need to save a little money yet. We still have gaps to fill to ensure we have a down payment, plus having something left in our accounts!

Therefore, we are moving forward, but at a slow pace. I want to move forward like I'm dashing toward the finish for a gold medal. I want this house that bad. However, I must have patience. I must wait until we have a little more money so we don't dig ourselves into an uncomfortable situation. It isn't like a month is that long. However when the house of my dreams is on the line, a month is going to feel like forever!

We tried to not stress about it to much tonight. Instead, with our monthly anniversary day, we made nachos, and watched some more of Planet Earth. It was just nice to cuddle on our couch.

A month of updates

Tuesday, August 26, 2008 -- Started blog break. Husband brought me 'crazy daisy' flowers :)

Wednesday, August 27 - - Husband had been promising to wash dishes for a few days. I was just giving him time, as I knew he would get around to it, not to mention I didn't have the time to bother with it. We were in the middle of watching "Scrubs". It was around midnight, and he decided he would start washing dishes. Suddenly, I heard "Oh my God, Oh my God". I turned to look, and said "What!?". Husband made a quick turn toward me and blood spattered on the counter! I guess a glass had broke in the sink and slit his hand open. We quickly wrapped his hand and made our way to the ER. Two hours, and eight stitches later we were finally driving out of the ER parking lot.

(Husband's wound... click the photo if you want to see...)

It was a PAY PARKING LOT! Seriously. Who ever heard of having to pay to park at the ER? We dug around the car floor long enough to find enough change to pay the meter so we could leave.

August 29 - - We go to the State Fair each August 29, for our monthly anniversary celebration!

I LOVE the MN State Fair! The food, the music, the parade... it is all great!

Husband and I don't "do" rides at the fair, except one per year. This year, it was the "Big Slide"!

As I was sitting on the slide -- I got a call... about my future job! She left a message asking me to call back, After situating myself in a 'quiet' area of the fair (the pig barn) I called back and was offered a position! I was SO excited! What a perfect day!

August 30 -- Went to a friend's House warming party.

August 31 -- Husbands family came to visit. We decided to visit the zoo for the afternoon.

September 8 -- Started at my Job! I am working at a community college as an advisor/coordinator for a group of at risk students. I was so nervous, however it was (and still is) great. I love every minute of it!

September 12 -- Left for NE Wedding. Spent the night somewhere near Omaha.

September 13 -- Met our puppy! Husband's family is looking after him until we get a house!

September 18 --Met with mortgage broker! We are pre-approved for a house! :-)
September 19 -- Met with our Realtor!
September 21 --Husband went to first Vikings football game. I worked on conference planning.
September 27 -- Went house hunting! We had been searching on the internet ever since I graduated in May, thus we have had a few picked out, not to mention a favorite or 2. After narrowing them down to our ultimate favs, we ended up seeing 3. We are kind of in love with one of the homes, and thinking about making an offer... I am so nervous about this process. I really like this house, and don't want to loose it...
September 28 -- I did a bunch of cleaning. I'm trying to not think about the house, however I'm so anxious. Husband is going to call the Realtor tomorrow...

So that I my month in a nutshell! It was a busy month, however I wasn't able to work on my blog. I really need to update my blog roll, graphic changes, and a few behind the scenes stuff, such as backing up my blog! Hopefully those things will soon happen! However, one step at a time! :)

July 30, 2008

Where has the summer gone?

I have been so busy with weddings, showers, conference planning and job hunting I have nearly forgotten to enjoy my summer 'off'. Huh. Summer off, yeah right. It seems like regardless of my employment status, I have put in at least 40 hours a week all summer (maybe even overtime)!

This last weekend I was at a cousin's wedding.

Monday I spent the day with my bff K for her birthday! We had lunch at Dave and Buster's and then drove to Stillwater to walk through the cute shops and go on the trolley tour. The tour was full, so instead of basking in the sun on a trolley full of hot sweaty people, we hunted out some ice cream. We had ice cream and french fries... It turned out to be perfect!

Monday night I applied for another job! This one required me to create a username and password and entire application on their site. I had to retype all my resume into their forms. Plus they asked for way more information than I was prepared for! I was so nervous about hitting "submit".

Today I spent the day organizing conference materials and then going to a prep meeting. Honestly, I am so ready for this conference to be over. However I do enjoy meeting at Caribou Coffee. It gives the the excuse I need to have one of these! Yes, even when it is 90 degrees outside...

On my way home from the meeting, I stopped at Costco to pick up a pizza for our monthly anniversary! :-) A 16 inch pizza, already cooked pizza for $9.95. Yummy! However they only take cash or checks at the food counter and of course neither of which was in my bag, SO I went to the food section and just grabbed one to cook at home. Same pizza, uncooked, but cost $9.99. What... back up. Strange. Plus, they take debit at the regular check outs, just not the food court. Whatever!

So Husband and I celebrated our July 08 anniversary with costco pizza and tv. We are getting a little not so creative with these monthly deals. Hmm. (Honey,we need to work on that!). It is getting somewhat repetitive of eating out and tv watching.

Tomorrow, I have another conference meeting (as I do all day on Friday as well!). Ugh.

Plus! There is the Bloggy giveaways going on. These are always so much fun however
I'm saddened by the fact that I have been only able to visit a couple other participant blogs with all the craziness going on! Hopefully I'll have a few down moments between now and Friday!

Then next week, I'm hoping to get back on a regular posting schedule! I had been doing so well...

June 29, 2008

Husband had spent the morning, until around 2pm with his family. I spent the day at the scrapbook event. We met at the end of the event, loaded the car and headed out.

We drove back from being home on the 29th. It was nice to have the time to be able to talk. We talked about the future, what our goals are, how we can reach them.

We stopped at a DQ for supper. Yummy!
