Trying to Catch Up

As always, life is crazy.

I have about a gazillion things in my RTM list.

I have coupons all over the kitchen counter.

One of my bestest friends, Tink, is moving in less than a week.

I haven't seen (or emailed) my other bestest friend, K, in a long time (K - we need to set up a movie night, and/or scrapbook weekend... fruity happies might be involved... )

I do not have all my beloved blogs in a reader.

Our computer is still full and I have to upload a couple photos at a time, edit, print, delete. This is not working. Husband is working on a solution, however when I'm on the computer, he cannot fix my computer photo problem.

I'm back on the caffeine habit and my body is ticked off about this.

I have photos to edit for my great aunt.

Photos to upload, organize, edit and print for my photo 365 project (I haven't printed any since freaking MAY!)

Then, there is this room in our home. An extra bedroom. We moved into our house last November and this particular room holds all the boxes and junk we haven't wanted to sort.

Well. it is time.

Therefore, I may/maynot blog this week, or so. Oh shock, right? :) Yeah, I know, I'm not very consistent anyhow. Yet, I try to be here are least now and then.

I love documenting our life here...

Anyhow. I would LOVE to hear how you all tackle the to do list. Right now, I am just going to open it up, and go down the list, taking anything marked priority first. After that. Just one after another until it is all DONE.

My RTM list does include some blogging, thus I'll be here, however it might be a little random.

Heck. I guess it will just be a normal couple of blogging weeks for me then :)

Haha! I guess, nevermind.... ;)

I have a confession

Hello. My name is Kim, aka: Crazy Daisy, and I have a confession to make.

I have been blogging for around 21 months...

I enjoy reading a lot of blogs...

I do have some favs that I visit nearly every day, but visit many regularly, depending on my mood...

So here it is... my bloggy friends...

I do not use a blog reader.

Yep. You are reading that correctly.

I have meant too...

I just find it easier, in the moment, to bookmark the blog...

Thus, now I have hundreds of book marked blogs...

It is out of control...

In the name of organization and using my time wisely...

I WILL set up a blog reader...

I must.

Creative Week - Organization - Guest Post!

Not sure what is going on, check this out first!

New and want to check out Day One? Day Two (prize drawing)?

Please welcome and give a warm Forever Daisies Hello to Katie, from Crafts By Katie! I'm super excited for her to be guest posting today!!! I always like to hear ideas about organization. Happy Wednesday!

---

Hi all! It's Katie, from Crafts By Katie and I am totally delighted to be over here writing a guest post. I happen to love this blog and I check in here all the time. This is my first ever guest spot so that makes it even more special.

Now, what am I going to write about today? Organization. As some of you may know, I'm one of those people who are either obscenely organized or everything is chaos. Right now, I'm working on getting my new home into a lovely state of organization and since I know that a lot of people need organization help and this is Creative Week on Forever Daisies, that's where we're going to focus.

How many of you have craft rooms or spaces that look like a tornado went whipping through and just left things scattered everywhere? I know that more than once, my space has looked just like that. Right now, it looks like a cardboard box factory blew up in there! Well, since chaos means we can't find a darned thing, I want to share with you just a few tips that I've discovered as I've organized a few craft spaces.

1. Find what works for you. - I know, this sounds so common sense, right? But, if you're like me, you've seen the ads and the commercials for this way of organizing or that way of organizing. Well, if they work for you, that's great! But, if they don't, don't feel like a failure. We all have our own ways of thinking and of doing things, so why should organization be any different? Let's take ribbon for example..below are 3 pictures showing sample ways of organizing it. Is one any better than another? Nope! For me, I like to store mine in jars..I like the color and the fact that I'm re-using old jars that otherwise might have been tossed out. For some of you, it might be the ribbon spoolers. If one way doesn't work, try something new! I guarantee that there is a way that will click and you will be a happy organized camper (or crafter)!

2. Keep Things Accessible - What I've discovered is that if it's not within easy reach, I'm not going to use it. So, my second tip for all of you is when you're organizing your space, keep things where you can get to them. I admit that I store some things on top of my bookshelves, but I learned only to put those things that I'm not going to use on a regular basis. Everything that I use is someplace that I can reach out and have within 30 seconds to a minute. I keep quite a few of my things in drawers, but those drawers are clear plastic and clearly labeled so nothing is hard to find. If it's hard to find, it won't be used and then why do you have it?

3. ReUse - Like I said before, we've all seen the ads and the commercials for the different storage/organizational systems. I want to let you all know though that organization doesn't have to be expensive. I've found that it's just as good to reuse items that you already had around the house or even things that are being tossed out by others. Years and years ago, my former mother-in-law, gave us a paper sorter to hold our business forms and printer paper in. Well, I've taken that and now I store all of my 8.5x11 cardstock and papers in it. I also took an old Sauder (think Walmart pressboard) dresser and I've converted it into another storage place! I have all of my stamp sets stored in the bottom 3 drawers of it and use the top drawers for storing other items, such as yarn.

Now, I know a lot of you have probably seen where people have taken old spice racks and used them to hold things like eyelets! I love that idea! My new organization project is going to work inside my dresser. I'm taking my old wooden silverware organizer and after I repair it, I'm going to place it into one of the drawers where it will now organize my scrapbooking tools! So, keep your eyes open and reuse things around your own house, or be like me and watch Freecycle or CraigsList to see what other people are getting rid of. I recently scored 15 photo boxes for under $20 and they're going to hold photos, organize my kids crafting items and all sorts of other goodies!

Well, I certainly hope that these three simple tips will help some of you out and I do hope that you'll leave some comments! They might even get you entered into the grand prize giveaway! Don't forget to participate in all of the great challenges here and keep coming back!

Take care!
Katie

The scrapbook room remodel... revealed!

When we bought the house in November, and first moved in, my scrapbook room looked like this:

Yes, Lovely swimming pool blue!

Then, we painted... It looked SO much better (what a difference paint can make!):
So much better, however that silly window to no where was still there, had 2 cold cement walls, and that useless pipe coming out of the wall...

The remodeling process:

The result:

I did stay with the "Honey Bear" Color and red accents. I pulled a few items from other rooms in the house, as well as pick up a couple craigslist super buys! I have a couple more things to put away, and organize, however I am SO happy with my new room! I am extremely grateful for my understanding Husband as well as brother in law. They both put in a lot of time doing this and I appreciate it more than I can ever express!

They did SUCH a great job!

Do you "Remember the Milk"?

I had post-it notes all over my desk.

I tried keeping one note book with all my "to-do's" however it got messy, turned into 6 notebooks and a huge mess.

I kept a personal computer calendar, work computer calendar, and paper calendar with random things in it.

I had random notes around the house with books to read, groceries to pick up, and websites to visit.

Needless to say, I have a lot going on and often my life is largely unorganized. Granted, I don't forget huge tasks, work projects, etc. However I'm always nervous that I will.

This last week, I was introduced to "Remember the Milk".

It is a free site (of course you can upgrade for a fee), that helps one keep all lists, tasks and to-dos in one place! After using it for just under a week now, I am totally hooked.

When you first log in, it lands at your "Today" list, which as you may have guessed, is everything due today. You can also easily click to "Tomorrow" or "Overdue".

From here, I typically go to my "Lists". These are categories that are completely customizeable. Here is what I have so far:

(Inbox, Bills, Blog/Social Networking, Books to read, Crafts, Family, Friends, Household/yard, MCPA, Personal, Photography, Professional Development, Study/School, Work, Sent, All)

I haven't had a chance to go through all my note books, stickies etc and enter them into the site, however I have not since wrote a sticky note, on in one of my 6 notebooks! Everything is going into a category.

Basically, I keep the site open at all times, adding as needed.

Here is a snapshot of my "Blog/Social Networking" category.

You can click on the above to see the details. You can see on the right it notes total time estimated to complete all tasks here, and my label cloud. You can also see I have a few items past due... oops. (hey, more organized doesn't always mean everything will get done!)

I also have a summary of "today's due tasks" sent to my email every morning (can be customized). Another fun feature that I have yet to use is the "Share". From my understanding, if someone you know also has Remember the Milk, one can share tasks. This would be super handy at work, or possibly in households!

I love it!
Sure there are a couple little picky things I would add or change, as it would work better for me, (ie:being able to color code items acording to category) however overall it is great! I highly recommend this! And heck, you can't beat free!

Sunday afternoon Challenge - The Pantry

With the nice weather, I have been in a "let's get the house clean" mood. Over all it has paid off. Here is what I did this morning...

Before (well 1/2 way through - forgot to take the before photo):

After:

OOOH, SO much better!

So I want to know: What does your pantry look like? Is it similar to mine? Please, share! I want to know I'm not the only one living like this! :-)

I want to see pictures.

I want details.

Hey, while we are at it... let's do a messy pantry carnival!

All you have to do to participate is post up a picture of your pantry on your blog, linking back to here. Then, leave a comment here letting up know you are participating.

New Scrap Space!

Some time ago I asked for your advise on what color to paint my craft space. Remember the "swimming pool blue" it was before?

Then, I had a heck of a time deciding what color to paint....

Finally, I teased with showing the "Honey Bear" paint color...

Now, the final results...

Before:

I don't have everything put away, however here is what it looks like so far!

After:

The red stripe rug I found on clearance at Target for $6.00!

Today, I found these adorable red tin buckets for 50 cents at Target!
They are a perfect fit!

It is amazing what a little bit of paint can do to change a room!

Honey Bear

It was just a few days ago when I was skillfully avoiding unpacking my scrapbook supplies. I had decided the swimming pool blue had to go. Then, after several days of trying to decide what color would work, I finally just went to the store and didn't leave until I had a paint bucket in hand.

"Honey Bear" was the final pick! What do you think?

I am done painting (after a night of being up until 4 am), and now putting all my supplies in their rightful places. I will post more photos soon!
