Creative Week - The Freeze Frame

The Freeze Frame and Giveaway!

Have you heard about the Freeze Frame? I'm loving it! I love it so much, I want to share with you all the greatness of this creation!

Here is a step by step (as much as I can - I'm not much for directions) of my first time using the Freeze Frame!

1. I picked out all my paper, had my photos ready and moved things around several times until it was just right.

2. I pondered. Slept on it. Look at it again, and decided it was perfect.

3. Darn. Not what. Things never go back on when I need to glue things down! OH YEAH! I have a Freeze Frame!

"Freeze It. Flip It. Finish It."

4. Being I did not start by using the Freeze Frame, I had to move my layout. Place the bottom side of the Freeze Frame on the work surface, and then move the layout onto the Freeze Frame. (if you know you are going to use it, you start out by placing your paper on the Freeze Frame bottom).

You can see the "frame" part of the freeze frame here

5. Place the top 1/2 of the Freeze Frame over your layout!

6. Slowly pick up the top 1/2 of the Freeze Frame. Your layout will come along, however should leave the bottom base paper.

7. Here, you can see the bottom portion and the top. After taking the top part of the layout, I turned it upside down (the red is the back of the photos)

8. I used my adhesive on the back of the items. After I had adhesive on everything, I turned it back over and pressed it onto the background paper. I then carefully pick the top Freeze Frame back off.

9. Then repeat... Because I had a couple layers, There was a couple "repeat the add adhesive" steps. I then did the other side of the 2 page layout.

10. ALL DONE! Everything Perfectly back into the spot I had it originally! AWESOME!

OMG! Isn't that just Amazing!

From The Freeze Frame site:

"While at late night crops, after working for a long time on a detailed page, sometimes the design would be lost while trying to affix the layers & embellishments. Thus was born The Freeze Frame"

Creative Week - Being Crafty... and Green!

Not sure what is going on, check this out first!

WELCOME!
*be sure to check out other giveaways on SITS!

I LOVE shopping for new and exciting crafty products! I can even admit, I have a bit of a paper problem... they are so pretty, colorful, and the patterns are amazing! However, for my budget and in trying to be as eco friendly as possible, I try to use what I have.

When working on a project, I keep nearly any size of scrap paper (see how I organize it). I often go back for these scraps when adding little elements to a page, or need to cut out letters for a title.

For today's challenge, I would like you to do an entire project with what you have! Use up those scraps, odds and ends, and left over papers, stickers, beads, yarn... whatever your project is, use what you have!

For extra credit, post (or comment) about what you do to be green and/or frugal in your hobby/creative projects!

For my project, I completed a 2 page scrapbook layout with paper I already had. I really wanted to go to the store and purchase football paper to go with my pictures (my first pro football game!), however I resisted and used up some of the paper I already had. Here is how it turned out.

I used...
- Yellow and red card stock that I already had from a paper pack
- Polka dot paper I have had for ages and had a crease in it
-Textured football paper and a couple stickers from a football book I made for my brother
- Purple paper I had from making my sisters shower invites
- Paper punch from stash

Participating in the challenge? Be sure to enter your link in the Mister Linky below! We would love to visit and see what you have created today!

To celebrate everyone thinking about being green, even in their hobbies and creative projects, I'm giving away a Kohls reuseable shopping bag and a Eco Inspirations journal!

Now, the journal is awesome, however I have to say, I also have this bag, and it is HUGE! --It holds 30 pounds of craft supplies (or whatever else you may purchase)! It is also great that I folds up! I keep mine in my car or purse!

3 ways to enter to win the bag and journal...
1. Comment on this post (one per person)
2. Tweet about Creative week (then comment again letting me know).
3. Participate in today's challenge and sign in on the Mister Linky below.

Creative Week - Organization - Guest Post!

Not sure what is going on, check this out first!

New and want to check out Day One? Day Two (prize drawing)?

Please welcome and give a warm Forever Daisies Hello to Katie, from Crafts By Katie! I'm super excited for her to be guest posting today!!! I always like to hear ideas about organization. Happy Wednesday!

---

Hi all! It's Katie, from Crafts By Katie and I am totally delighted to be over here writing a guest post. I happen to love this blog and I check in here all the time. This is my first ever guest spot so that makes it even more special.

Now, what am I going to write about today? Organization. As some of you may know, I'm one of those people who are either obscenely organized or everything is chaos. Right now, I'm working on getting my new home into a lovely state of organization and since I know that a lot of people need organization help and this is Creative Week on Forever Daisies, that's where we're going to focus.

How many of you have craft rooms or spaces that look like a tornado went whipping through and just left things scattered everywhere? I know that more than once, my space has looked just like that. Right now, it looks like a cardboard box factory blew up in there! Well, since chaos means we can't find a darned thing, I want to share with you just a few tips that I've discovered as I've organized a few craft spaces.

1. Find what works for you. - I know, this sounds so common sense, right? But, if you're like me, you've seen the ads and the commercials for this way of organizing or that way of organizing. Well, if they work for you, that's great! But, if they don't, don't feel like a failure. We all have our own ways of thinking and of doing things, so why should organization be any different? Let's take ribbon for example..below are 3 pictures showing sample ways of organizing it. Is one any better than another? Nope! For me, I like to store mine in jars..I like the color and the fact that I'm re-using old jars that otherwise might have been tossed out. For some of you, it might be the ribbon spoolers. If one way doesn't work, try something new! I guarantee that there is a way that will click and you will be a happy organized camper (or crafter)!

2. Keep Things Accessible - What I've discovered is that if it's not within easy reach, I'm not going to use it. So, my second tip for all of you is when you're organizing your space, keep things where you can get to them. I admit that I store some things on top of my bookshelves, but I learned only to put those things that I'm not going to use on a regular basis. Everything that I use is someplace that I can reach out and have within 30 seconds to a minute. I keep quite a few of my things in drawers, but those drawers are clear plastic and clearly labeled so nothing is hard to find. If it's hard to find, it won't be used and then why do you have it?

3. ReUse - Like I said before, we've all seen the ads and the commercials for the different storage/organizational systems. I want to let you all know though that organization doesn't have to be expensive. I've found that it's just as good to reuse items that you already had around the house or even things that are being tossed out by others. Years and years ago, my former mother-in-law, gave us a paper sorter to hold our business forms and printer paper in. Well, I've taken that and now I store all of my 8.5x11 cardstock and papers in it. I also took an old Sauder (think Walmart pressboard) dresser and I've converted it into another storage place! I have all of my stamp sets stored in the bottom 3 drawers of it and use the top drawers for storing other items, such as yarn.

Now, I know a lot of you have probably seen where people have taken old spice racks and used them to hold things like eyelets! I love that idea! My new organization project is going to work inside my dresser. I'm taking my old wooden silverware organizer and after I repair it, I'm going to place it into one of the drawers where it will now organize my scrapbooking tools! So, keep your eyes open and reuse things around your own house, or be like me and watch Freecycle or CraigsList to see what other people are getting rid of. I recently scored 15 photo boxes for under $20 and they're going to hold photos, organize my kids crafting items and all sorts of other goodies!

Well, I certainly hope that these three simple tips will help some of you out and I do hope that you'll leave some comments! They might even get you entered into the grand prize giveaway! Don't forget to participate in all of the great challenges here and keep coming back!

Take care!
Katie

Thank you Katie!!!!

What do you do for creative organization?

Dream. Be Inspired. Create. Challenge Two

Not sure what is going on, check this out first!

New and want to check out Day One?

One thing I love doing, is using something average, and making it a work of art!

This could be anything from

- - - glitter, paper, and lettering to make a fun grad card

Colored paper cut into circles to make a globe - - -

- - - or even a few small brown lunch bags to make a welcome to the neighborhood album!

One item I really love using to create magic, and haven't written about, is frames!
Yup. Ordinary photo frames.

Here is why I L.O.V.E. them:

ONE: they are cheap! Watch for clearance, thrift stores, garage sales... you might not need the glass in the frame (watch for clearance at Michaels), or can tear out that interested 70's art from that beautiful wood frame at the thrift store!

TWO: They do not always need to be in perfect shape!

THREE: They can be used for SO many projects!

Take this frame, for example!

Pretty typical 8x10 frame. I could print a photo and let it sit in this frame and things would be just fine. However a few ideas instead...

You could also...
  • use a rub on word over a photo, OR on the frame or glass!
  • Put your favorite kitchen themed paper in it and hang in your food prep area
  • Find a cork mat and use the frame to make a cord board
  • Use vinyl lettering on your wall and frame

Here are a couple other frame projects I have done.

Today's Challenge:

Find a typical object, such as a photo frame, and see what you can come up with!
Post about it on your blog and sign the Mister Linky to let us know to come check it out!

OR/AND

Post on your blog about a project you already completed!
Be sure to sign up with mister linky!

I'm excited to see what everyone comes up with!
Don't forget to also take your photo of the day today!

OOOOOOOOH! And more fun stuff!
I'm giving away the red frame!

Dream. Be Inspired. Create. Challenge One

Not sure what is going on, check this out first!

Today, there are 2 challenges:

First:
I challenge you to take one photo each day. Take the photo of whatever you would like. You can take it each day out your kitchen window, of your child, or pet, of something that represents what you are doing that day... Just take a photo!

Second:
Think about what inspires you.

Music?

Words?

Photos?

Color?

People?

What else?

Do not limit yourself! Document those things that inspire you by writing a story or memory, drawing pictures, sketching, listing words, painting it out... whatever you would like... BE CREATIVE with it!

If nothing comes to mind... that is okay. We all have those days.

Here are a few things to try...

looking around your house - - -
- - - go on a walk
call up a good friend or family member - - -
- - - day dream

You will find something!

I'm also participating each day!
Here is what I came up with for each of the challenges!

- ~ - - ~ -
- ~ - - ~ - - ~ - - ~ - - ~ - - ~ -
My Photo today:

Here is what inspires me:

and a close up:

I'm a visual person, so I started with a piece of white paper and just starting documenting what inspires me! I cut, I torn, I used adhesive... What I found was that (even though not great at it) I like to create shapes and drawings to describe my thoughts.

YOUR TURN!

Post your Photo of the Day and/or the answer to "what inspires you?" on your blog! Feel free to use the Creative Week graphic if you would like!
