Weekend Flair: Rainy Day Card

This card was a lot of fun to make and a bit of an experiment. I had never used spray in my crafting, and it was time. I purchased the Goosebumps spray, and decided it would be a fun way to 'show' rain.

My cricut cut the umbrella, boots, grass and rain drops. I layered the boots with 2 shades of yellow, and colored in the black on the bottom. I inked the grass with a deep green.

The drops and umbrella were first inked around the edge using a silver ink and then sprayed with the Goosebumps spray. They did have to be set aside to dry for a few minutes.

I used scrap paper to punch 2 clouds. Using the blending tool, blue ink, and the clouds as masks, I ramdomly placed clouds on the background of the white card base.

The umbrella, I layed with a red/yellow combo. I used a couple layers of 3D dots under the center of the umbrella to gain a deeper 3D perspective.

Finished it off with an Ali Edwards stamp! :)

Weekend Flair #17 - Baby Shower Invites

With my sister Carrie having her first baby in July, I have been working on planning a baby shower! :)

After chatting with her a bit about it, and confirmation on having a boy, we decided on a "FireTrucks" theme and to invite the guys to her house for grilling and the ladies to another location for whatever I planned. After this, she let me loose to do whatever. Dangerous! Hehe!

Other than having the shower invites made and mailed, I haven't gotten very far.

It was a long, step by step process which included printing...

Cutting with the Cricut (using Everyday Paper Dolls)...

 Stamping...

Using a round punch while the Cricut was busy with firetrucks and hydrants...

Recruiting Alan to help with various steps...

However having him help with embossing may not have been the best idea! :)

(though I have to admit, he only burnt a couple!)

We glued the trucks to the back of the printed invite.

What is your favorite baby shower activity?

10 things the made me smile this week...

1. Rollerblading. Who knew you could rollerblade in the Metrodome!? Well. You can! woot woot!

2. My cricut. It would have sucked to cut out 70 firetrucks and 70 fire hydrants by hand.

3. Being Healthy. I was sick for almost 2 weeks. It is nice to be able to breath through my nose again.

4. Fresh Fruit.

5. Friends, Family and my students. They all make me smile.

6. Clearance finds.

 7. My guys :)

 8. Fresh Flowers.

9.  Not being alone when a flat tire happened.

10. The sun / No additional snow.

Scrapbooking for Pets

I LOVE scrapbooking. I have been the kind of scrapbooker who focused on vacation photos. I'm several vacations behind, and though trying to catch up, and realizing I need a new system (check out  my new system here!)

I am starting to realize I much prefer scrapbooking every day moments vs 100's of vacation pics. Don't get me wrong, I love looking through travel photos. There is definitely something about being on vacation, exploring new places that makes me so happy. However, it seems with only focusing on vacations, I was forgetting the important daily events that happen in my life. What does this say about me, my life and my priorities? Yikes. It isn't really a terrible thing, however I want to also document birthdays and days on the lake, and at the park, and hanging out in the back yard!

Some of my favorite recent layouts include Dakota and/or Jaffery. In honor of Jaffery's recent adoption birthday (part 1 - part 2/etsy giveaway) and PetFinder's 15th year anniversary, I'm posting a few! :)

I'm not sure on the brand of all items, however included it below when I did know. When I am down to odds and ends, I typically do not remember what brand they are from.

This first one was my first full page photo. I added the text in Photoshop, uploaded to Costco, and had it printed within 24 hours!  The rest is fairly simple. Text cut on the Cricut, simple boarders on the photos, and the paw prints are from BoBunny 12x12 Pet Shop Cutouts, and put in tags.
Journaling: "We talked multiple times about taking Dakota and Jaffery in the canoe. We picked out puppy life jackets, filled the to go puppy water bottle and filled the middle of the canoe with puppy pillows. When we got to Crystal Lake, of course, we had a crowd of people watching. Regardless, we got everyone in the boat and successfully launched. All went downhill from there. Dakota went from looking over one side of the boats, to wanting to look out the other side. Of course to look out the other side he was convinced he also needed to move to the other wise, causing some serious rocking of the boat. Jaffery, who had slept the one time we had taken him out previously, decided he wanted to lean over the edge of the boat and bite at the water...  yes, bite the water. With all the movements, and rocking in the boat, Kim was freaking out, and Alan, sitting in the front, had no idea what the heck was going on. We eventually made it back to shore. Kim sat with the canoe. Alan drive Dakota and Jaffery home.

This page was so much fun to create! I took several odds and ends stickers, paper strips etc that I had and they matched up so well!
Patterned paper, & paper strips, and a couple of the stickers: Scooter's Vacation Collection.
Giant arrow & the {}: We R Memory Keepers "Grandma's Kitchen".

Background paper: SEI "Addison"
Round punch out of Everyday Adventures: " Sweet Water Scrapbooking

Is it what you want it to say about you and your life?

Compassion Letter - Blue

It has been less than 2 weeks since receiving my information packet from Compassion. I mailed off my first letter less than a week ago, and now I'm already preparing to send my next envelope.

I'm not sure why, however I have decided to go with a "blue" theme this time. I picked up a few super thin used books (this Clifford one happened to fit the theme), printed the stationary on blue paper, and then started thinking about what else is "blue".  Without saying things like "some toys/houses/cars/things that can be painted are blue", it was a little challenging.  Here is the list of what I came up with.
  • Blue bird
  • Blueberries
  • Flowers
  • Sky
  • Water
  • Robin's eggs
  • Blue jeans
I used my Cricut machine to cut out the blue bird and flower. I then found the K and V (my child's initials) in my stash of scrapbooking stuff. I also made a simple bookmark to go with the book I'm sending. I'll be putting all this together, likely gluing down some of the item, such as the letters, and sending them off in the next couple of days!

Do you send themed letters to your Compassion child?

You can read about my Compassion journey here. Though somewhat short, is definitely becoming a part of who I am.
