All I wanna to do is scrap!
I have been suffering from scrapbooking withdrawal... Symptoms: obsessive need to look at photos and cut random people out of the background, attraction to shiny metal objects, finding myself in the kitchen searching for constant flow of caffeine and sugar, and screamming "WOO HOO" every time I check something off my to do list.
Last Thursday-Sunday, I attended a scrapbooking retreat in South Dakota. It was AMAZING! The progress (I finally finished my California Album!), the friends (a friend went along for the ride, my mom and sister were there, plus I knew 1/3 of the other 100 people), the food (need I say more?), and the excitement of coming together with so many to do something we all love.
Have you ever attended a scrapbooking/craft retreat weekend?

a little bit of C.R.A.Z.Y
My mind is all over the place today!
Remember, Remember the Milk? Well, I have a couple hundred items in it to complete. I do not know how I would keep track of everything without it! I even signed up for the RTM pro account! Well worth it!
Here is the summary.
Work = crazy. The bulk of my items are work related. I can't seem to keep up. Students need letter of recommendation, help finding a tutor, someone to read over their paper, or transfer application, a reminder about next weeks group meeting... yeah. Crazy.
I am also working on my posts for next week! Yeah, I know. Nothing like last minute :) If you haven't heard, my creative space was recently remodeled! In celebration, I'm doing a crafty/creative/giveaway week! My blog will be full of fun and creative ideas ANYONE can do! Be sure to stop by and check it out! If you are interested in guest posting, having me link up to your creative post, and/or have an idea for me on what kind of creative things you would like to read about, let me know!
Also in the mix is... family stuff, updating my resume, getting things done for the conference I'm helping with, trying to find a balance with my sugar drinks and water, our garden, finish cleaning the basement after our mini remodel, trying to touch base with my good friend K, who I've been playing phone tag with for SO long, trying to clean off my computer to upload photos, then sort photos and upload to print (at least the next ones to scrapbook and for my 365 project!)...
Anyhow. I hope you are all well! And again, please leave me a message about what creative stuff you want to see next week! yes, even YOU, now is the time to delerk! :-)

What is your vision of love?
Leslie at Love Street recently posted about relationships. I wanted to comment then, but couldn't quite put my thoughts together.
I always had this vision of love in my head, my mind's eye. I admit, it was a bit "prince on a white horse" kind of vision, but it is what it is.
I went through a couple minor relationships, of course ending with heartbreak (and finding out how terrible some guys are). Sure I was super young, but I was left vulnerable, unsure of myself, not sure if I could trust another guy, yet searching for someone to love. Something I walked away with from these couple super early relationships was "If your gut tells you something isn't quite right, something isn't right." Another one to note would be "If someone tells you, from their perspective, something isn't right, at least consider their point of view".
Not long after these crappy endings I met this guy... This guy was my price charming. The long version of the story is, well, long, so maybe another time. We have been through (coming up on) 11 years of our lives together! So much has happened.
When we were first married, someone told me to "never go to bed mad". HA! If we would have lived by this, there would be all kinds of sleep lost. We took a step back and instead decided we always say goodnight. Yes, always.
Well, sometimes husband falls asleep the moment his head hits the pillow. However, I say goodnight, and he wakes enough to mumble "g'night"... Even when we are livid as the heat of the sun, we force out a ticked off "goodnight!".
To me, this is love. It is the simple things, like going out for lunch, dreaming about a future house together while sprawled in the grass, or making a point to be together and do something special on our monthly anniversary!
Love is an interesting thing. It is curious how one's vision of love can change over time. Is it maturity and age? Or is it more life experiences that bring about the change? What about family circumstances?
What has impacted your vision of love, and how has your vision changed over time?
Here is my attempt...

We have changed, our relationship has changed. Yet here we are.

Raw Emotions
Today was tough. SO many crappy things happened. One particular interaction I had today prompted some strong emotions. This leads me to sharing with you some very important life saving information...
Did you know...
Warning signs...
If you suspect someone you know is considering suicide, it is essential to talk to them. Do not be afraid to directly, but gently, ask them if they are considering suicide. Contrary to some belief, this does not give them the idea. Instead it gives them permission to honestly talk about it. By opening up this line of communication, it shows that someone really does notice them, and cares about them. Ask open ended questions, giving them the opportunity to answer with more than a "yes" or "no".
If you feel the person isn't in immediate danger, work with them to create a plan of action. Help them find resources, such as a doctor or counselor. It may also be helpful to offer to take the person to the appointment.
If the person has a plan, this is one major indication of level of seriousness. If the person is in immediate danger, call 911 or if needed, take the person to the ER or nearest hospital.
If you are considering suicide, remember you are not alone. There are MANY people that care about you and want to help. Please talk to someone. If you are not comfortable telling someone you know, please call 911.
Additional information can be found on the Mayo Clinic web site. Please take a couple moments to read through it. You never know when you could save someone's life.

Another random update
How was your holiday? Ready for the New Year?
We have had a lot going on, with the holiday, still unpacking from our move, work, Dakota... plus Husband and I have teamed up and been working on a little bloggy surprise... life is busy!
Husband and I traveled to South Dakota to visit family. We had an adventurous time, especially with puppy Dakota. He decided the comfy back seat with his pillow and blanket wasn't good enough. He instead sat between us nearly all the way home. The last hour, he crawled in the back and seemed quiet. Needless to say, he ate our Nibs.
On the way back, during one of our puppy stops, Dakota found a good pile of snow, ran up it, lay on his back, and slid down the hill with his feet in the air. Over and Over. It was hilarious!
Husband and I exchanged gifts after Christmas once back home. He couldn't have done better. First, I opened this:

Then, my handbag weakness was fed with this beauty:

Even Dakota got me something:

We also hit up the local stores trying to find after holiday deals. Michaels and Target were the best. I got these for 60 cents each at Michaels.

This ribbon was also only $1.00 each! Amazing!

Sunday night, we grabbed takeout... Dakota LOVED it!

On Monday, the 29th...

Stay tuned for more updates!

- Dakota ate through the laptop computer cord
- Dakota chewed through a 2nd collar
- Husband and I went to Marley & Me. When we returned, Dakota had excaped from his kennel... he didn't make any messes, or tear apart anything... however after we were home for 5 minutes, he make a huge mess...
- We also attempted to take our photo next to the Christmas tree. Husband and I have taken our holiday photo next to our tree for several years as part of the holiday tradition. This year was no different. Well, almost. Many, many, MANY photos later, we still didn't have a photo with Dakota looking at the camera. The last shot somehow startled him. He ran under the tree and, well, below is the very last photo

What a ride...
Wednesday, November 26 - Husband and I both took the day off work. We continued to pack, and after taking Husband's sister to the airport for her Thanksgiving journey, we went to OUR HOUSE! It was all ours. As we opened the door, there was a sence of amazment rush through my body. We ran through the house, checking out each and every room. Then, reality sunk in... we still have to move in! :)
Our families arrived later in the evening. We moved a few things over (including beds and towels) and all spend the night in the new house!
Thursday (11-27) - Thanksgiving! I have so much to be thankful for! A wonderful loving husband, a supportive family, a beautiful house, a silly puppy... wow. It was a great feeling to wake up on Thanksgiving Day in my new place! We moved much of the day (technically, it was a lot of work, but we only moved about 20 miles)!
Friday (11-28) - We just hung out. My parents had to return home (after a quick run to a couple stores), however husband's family was able to stay one extra day. We went to the mall and a couple stores.
Saturday (11-29) - Our monthly anniversary. We did a little more shopping with Husband's family before they headed home. Otherwise, we enjoyed our time in our house. We picked up some more puppy stuff... yeah, it is sad how spoiled our little Dakota is already!

Sunday (11-30) - Grilled out on our new (well, new to us, thank you craigslist for making this affordable) grill! Husband did some errands as I put away more stuff. It has been amazing how much junk I have found.
Monday (12-1-08) December? When did November run away? Geez. Back to work. It was hard to return to work after so many days of anxiety, joy, excitement, fun, and family time.
Tuesday (12-2-08) - I can't remember... how sad is that? :-) Went to work. Went home. Walked puppy a few times. Oh, he has a very bad problem with nipping/biting. Any ideas? Sure just a puppy, but it needs to stop! Oh, also, any advise on how to 'social' him with other dogs? He is afraid of larger dogs and barks at little dogs...
It started snowing like crazy before we went to bed. I did a little preventative scooping, however it didn't do much good.

Today... well, not much new. Husband had to get out the snow blower this morning... so much for "just an inch of snow!"

I stayed a later after work to use the campus wi-fi, as we do not have internet at the house. It seems the previous owners didn't disconnect their services, and until the disconnect, we cannot connect! Geez.
I have been updating my twitter, including photos, at least daily, from my cell phone! Be sure to check on that!

Saying goodbye
I swear... I will get better at this blogging thing. I remember the days were I posted, rain or shine, 8am, or 3am...
... life keeps getting in the way. Last week, my grandfather passed away. Since then, I have been trying to balance between family time, professional time (work etc), and me time. It is hard. I really haven't had a chance to process everything.
I grew up on a farm/ranch in the middle of no where. My grandparents lived in the same yard. I could see their house from my front step. They were always there for me. When I was little, I would "run away" to grandma and grandpa. When I was a teenager, I would sit with grandma at the kitchen table, drinking tea, and talk about anything and everything. Grandpa would let me rid in the tractor with him, and in the evening, we would sit and listen to his stories...
Grandma passed away last year. I think saying goodbye to her was one of the most difficult things I have ever had to do. Now and then, I still find a tear escapes in her memory. Now grandpa is gone too. Tears have rolled down my face, however there is still a feeling of something unfinished.
... I guess I'll see what tomorrow brings.

Our weekend
The conference is finally over! I'm so relieved, yet a little sad. It was fun. Well, let me say it was a lot of work, frustration, tears, and people managing, however in the end, I met some great people, made some new friends, and have gained a lot of experience! We still have to write up our report and send out evals, however mostly the pressure is off...
Friday, Husband and I drove home to visit out families. We picked up my brother on the way, got home late (well, around 3 am) Saturday morning! Husband and his family went hiking and I got to say with my parents. All my siblings were home visiting as well! I also picked up my puppy from Husband's parents (as they are keeping him until we close on the house!). We had a great time! He only half listens, likes to play, and freaks out about other dogs. We took a lot of puppy photos. I will post them soon! If anyone has advise on puppy training, I'm all ears! I'm so excited for our puppy and our house!
Oh, we name our little one "Dakota". Not sure why, it just came and stuck.
In house news... We are closing on the house on November 26! The house inspection was awesome. No big fixes, or concerns! :) The inspector was great. He was like our very own "New Home Owners Manual". He told us when to change what, and where to go for certain items, and to be sure to do this and that... awesomeness!
So, now we have a lot of packing to do. Our apartment is a complete mess. I don't mean just some piles here and there. I mean it is like an entire zoo population was let loose in our living space. We just haven't had time to keep up. Hopefully we can motivate each other and get through everything before moving. I don't want to pack and move something I'm just getting rid of!
More soon!

A month of updates
Tuesday, August 26, 2008 -- Started blog break. Husband brought me 'crazy daisy' flowers :)
Wednesday, August 27 - - Husband had been promising to wash dishes for a few days. I was just giving him time, as I knew he would get around to it, not to mention I didn't have the time to bother with it. We were in the middle of watching "Scrubs". It was around midnight, and he decided he would start washing dishes. Suddenly, I heard "Oh my God, Oh my God". I turned to look, and said "What!?". Husband made a quick turn toward me and blood spattered on the counter! I guess a glass had broke in the sink and slit his hand open. We quickly wrapped his hand and made our way to the ER. Two hours, and eight stitches later we were finally driving out of the ER parking lot.
(Husband's wound... click the photo if you want to see...)
It was a PAY PARKING LOT! Seriously. Who ever heard of having to pay to park at the ER? We dug around the car floor long enough to find enough change to pay the meter so we could leave.
August 29 - - We go to the State Fair each August 29, for our monthly anniversary celebration!

I LOVE the MN State Fair! The food, the music, the parade... it is all great!

Husband and I don't "do" rides at the fair, except one per year. This year, it was the "Big Slide"!

As I was sitting on the slide -- I got a call... about my future job! She left a message asking me to call back, After situating myself in a 'quiet' area of the fair (the pig barn) I called back and was offered a position! I was SO excited! What a perfect day!
August 30 -- Went to a friend's House warming party.
August 31 -- Husbands family came to visit. We decided to visit the zoo for the afternoon.

September 8 -- Started at my Job! I am working at a community college as an advisor/coordinator for a group of at risk students. I was so nervous, however it was (and still is) great. I love every minute of it!
September 12 -- Left for NE Wedding. Spent the night somewhere near Omaha.
September 13 -- Met our puppy! Husband's family is looking after him until we get a house!
September 18 --Met with mortgage broker! We are pre-approved for a house! :-)
September 19 -- Met with our Realtor!
September 21 --Husband went to first Vikings football game. I worked on conference planning.
September 27 -- Went house hunting! We had been searching on the internet ever since I graduated in May, thus we have had a few picked out, not to mention a favorite or 2. After narrowing them down to our ultimate favs, we ended up seeing 3. We are kind of in love with one of the homes, and thinking about making an offer... I am so nervous about this process. I really like this house, and don't want to loose it...
September 28 -- I did a bunch of cleaning. I'm trying to not think about the house, however I'm so anxious. Husband is going to call the Realtor tomorrow...
So that I my month in a nutshell! It was a busy month, however I wasn't able to work on my blog. I really need to update my blog roll, graphic changes, and a few behind the scenes stuff, such as backing up my blog! Hopefully those things will soon happen! However, one step at a time! :)

Weekend Recap!
Thursday - - My interview was at 1 pm. I was first given a tour of campus by the director of the program I was interviewing to work with. The tour was nice, and it was a great way to learn more about the campus, and the program. I then had about a half hour to fill out some paperwork, and fill out a short advisor assessment. The interview started off, and I was SO nervous. They gave me the questions so I was able to follow along, and not have to ask them to repeat any of the questions (for anyone that does hiring, this was really nice!)! As the interview progressed, I became more and more relaxed and the interview committee and I started to really bond. They asked many follow up questions, and even a couple of the committee members seemed super excited.
After the interview, the director walked me out, and congratulated me on a super interview. We spoke for a few moments, and was told she would follow up with me later this week, as they have another interview.
I feel really good about the interview, and their reaction to me, and my experiences. Keeping my fingers crossed!
After the interview, I hurried home, and started packing for the scrapbooking weekend. It took a long time, but I had a lot of stuff. My husband got home from work, and helped me finish loading the car. The drive was so long!
Friday - - The morning we spent with my family, and lounging around. The scrapbooking event started at 5. My mom and I went up a little early to help set up and scope out the place. My husband went to spend the rest of the weekend with his family.
The rest of the weekend is almost a blur. There were up to 50 people scrapbooking at any given moment. Some people didn't sleep. There was a constant supply of food. There were a few shops to purchase stuff from. There were at least 5 cricuts on site. We played "Let's make a deal" for tickets. We did the chicken dance (many times). Tickets were used to win door prizes (from gift certificates, brads, and paper to office chairs and totes). The oldest scrapbooker = 71, the youngest = 12.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get much scrapbooking done. Instead I was busy helping with the organization of the event. I also was the photographer for the weekend, taking nearly 400 photos!
It was quite the weekend!

What would you do?
Tonight we went out with one of my husband's high school friends. He called to let us know he was in town for a conference and wanted to meet up for dinner. We enjoy when people visit. It is always nice to see family and friends while they are in town.(It is always frustrating to hear people were in town after the fact.)
When he called my husband asked if he had anywhere in mind he wanted to try. Maybe something he didn't have back home. He named a place downtown that we hadn't been to before. We knew it was a bit more expensive, but wasn't sure how much more expensive, and really couldn't then say we didn't want to go there.
We went, had a nice time, and enjoyed catching up with an old friend (and interestingly enough, this friend is married to my cousin). However, just for my husband and I, the bill was around $60.00. This didn't include the appetizer (as our friend insisted he pay for it), or the tip. We also didn't have dessert. This only only for the one plate of food we each had! It wasn't like we ordered the most expensive thing on the menu. We were actually almost as frugal as we could be without sharing something (which in hindsight may have been a good idea). Our friend's bill was nearly as much as ours, however he did pay for his meal, the appetizer and his dessert.
Now, I understand some people make more money than we do (which in his field is very likely). Additionally, some people may not be as frugal as we may be. In either case, that is fine. However, this friend plans to visit us again, bringing along his wife, and wants to return to this restaurant. Maybe they can afford this, however we cannot afford $60.00 meals. Additionally, we are not comfortable spending this amount of money on one meal, even if we could!
Don't get me wrong, we do our fair amount of spending on eating out and fun stuff. However, our splurging on dinner is usually around the $25-35 range (not $60). Plus for things that cost more, such as a concert, vacation, or other larger item, we save for it! We are not okay with relying on our credit cards.
We are by no means set financially, however are financially okay if we stick to our budget. So what do we do? Do we buck up and put it on the credit card, or basically save up for it? Or do we sheepishly admit we don't have the money and ask to go somewhere a bit cheaper? We don't want them to feel bad and pay for it for us, or "report" back to other friends of family that we aren't doing okay . Thoughts?

Our time spent with grandparents
This last Tuesday, my husband's grandparents drove up to visit. It is wonderful they are still able to get around just fine, and drive themselves to distant cities to visit grandchildren.
After they arrived on Tuesday evening, we took them to the casino buffet for supper. After we had stuffed ourselves full, they insisted everyone should get a dollar for the slot machines. Other than a powerball ticket a couple times, I have never gambled. I really didn't want to, however they insisted and I caved. I sat down, put in my dollar a penny machine and started winning. Even a penny at a time, I was around $6 at one point. With the four of us, we put in around $9.00 and came out with around $40. Surprisingly, it was kind of fun. Well, maybe more exciting.
Wednesday morning, we made them breakfast and then headed out to the Mall of America. They had never been there and wanted to see what the fuss was all about. It was fun showing them all the unique stores, and theme park in the middle of the mall! Grandma saw the Build a Bear workshop and just had to try it out. I felt completely silly, however she loved it. For those of you that have never done this, it is quite the experience. You first pick out a bear... well, "skin". You can pick out a voice box, or proceed to the fluff station. I opted to go for a bear that didn't make noice, however grandma picked one out for her's. Then, the bear maker helper assisted us in stuffing our bear. Then we each got to pick out a heart for our bear. I went with a plain one, but grandma, wanting the full experience, went for the heart that actually sounds like a beating heart when squeezed. Then, there was a heart ceremony. The helper had us hold our bear's heart, rub it in our hands to warm it up, and then on our hearts for love, our ears for listening... etc. In the end we had to jump up and down, and spin in a circle. After this was over, we put our bears' hearts in our bears, along with ids (then if lost, they can track whose bear it is and return it), and they got sewn up. After all of this, we gave our bears a 'bath', and also had the option of purchasing clothing (which we passed up). We then named our bears, received bear birth certificates, and were on our merry way. I did feel silly, however I have to admit, it was kind of fun! :-) I think my husband and grandpa were much more embarrassed than I.
For dinner, we took them to the Rainforest Cafe. This was fun, however by this time, we were getting worn out. After eating, we decided to stop by a park for fresh air and to enjoy the weather. This didn't last too long, as the rain came in. We headed back to our apartment for the afternoon. We were all sleepy, however grandpa and I feel asleep while my husband and grandma looked at our Niagara Falls photos.
We didn't get a lot of rest time, as before we new it, we needed to head out to "Walking with Dinosaurs". The show was amazing! I couldn't believe the technology, and production that was put into this! However, after looking more at the webpage for it, with a $20 million budget, I could do a lot too! Grandma loves everything dinosaurs, and seemed to really enjoy the show.
I have a few photos from the show posted here. Plus, I'm adding a couple video clips below. If you haven't seen this, I would highly suggest it! It is about 90 minutes, plus intermission. The show takes you through the evolution of dinosaurs, showing the most common one's during the different periods. We had tickets about mid level, however I'm not sure if having a lower seat would have made the show better.
After the show, we did a quick stop at Culver's and headed home. They left for home on Thursday morning, and my husband had to work. I spent the day getting ready to visit my family over the weekend and napping :)
Friday my husband and I drove to my parent's. We will spend Saturday at the Centennial celebration for the local community, and then my sister's bridal shower. Sunday we will do the return drive home.
It is great to see everyone, however I'm ready for a few days to sit around and not worry about anything... maybe next week. :-)

Feeling overwhelmed and unispired
I have spent the last couple days dealing with spiders. It all started when I noticed one crawling on my ceiling. However one turned to six and I panicked. Apartment living dosen't allow me to do much other than squish the things and wipe down their webs. I would love to be able to wash the webs off the outside of my windows and maybe do a little spraying around the place, however I guess this forces me to look for less toxic solutions. In searching the internet, it seemed there were many opinions and ideas, however I ended up getting a few sticky traps (typically used for mice) to put in the middle of spider highway, and some orange pine sol to wipe down around the windows and where I find webs. I keep trying to tell myself they keep away all the other creepy crawlies, however I feel itchy and icky just thinking about it.
My husband's grandparents are coming up tonight, and staying until Thursday. We are all going to Walking With Dinosaurs! I'm super excited, but have so much going on this week, I feel that I might not enjoy it like I should.
My sister's bridal shower is this weekend. I'm running around trying to prep for that. Plus, it is an 8 hour drive away, so it isn't like I can forget anything! In addition, I'm also going to hang out in my home town for it's centennial celebration! Yeah, maybe a little cheesy, especially for a town of 300, but it has potential.
I have gotten in one more application, and am working on another. I'm still nervous about not having a job, but haven't had a lot of time to think about it.
With all of the above I feel like I'm way behind in blogging. I know this isn't good. I should blog for myself, however I have a couple blog posts in the works that I really excited about and want to hit "publish" (such as the long awaited, much promised review of wii fit). Even more than feeling behind, I'm almost feeling uninspired. I have this daily stuff I write about, I complain a lot, and tend to favor the "this and that" posts, however I also want to make this meaningful, for myself and for anyone that happens to read this!
Do you have any certain way of ridding your living space of spiders?
