Week In the Life 2011 - Monday

I am participating in the 2011 "Week in the life" project at Ali Edwards Blog.  Generally, the idea is to document everyday life, with pictures and words.

I like to think I'm pretty good with taking photos (though not as much since stopping 2 years of the 365 project) however words, not so much. I love a good story, however I find it very challenging to sit down and write. Even jotting down a few things here and there are a pain in my bottom side.

Here are my favorite photos from today! I also kept the Netflix mailer from the movie we finished today, as well as the Pizza Ranch menu (we ordered out for supper!).

I'll be posting daily photos, and hopefully a few words, each day this week and then show you next week how I'm incorporating it all into my One Little Word Project/52 week photo project!

Even if you are not officially participating in the Week In the Life project, how do you document your life? What do you document (click to comment!)?

One for the ladies!

For the last couple of summers, Alan and I have the same argument...

------
Kim: I'm going to cut that stupid plant down.

Alan: I thought you said it was an elephant ear plant?

Kim: I said it looks like one, however that doesn't mean I want to keep it! I'm going to cut it down.

Alan: No, you are not. It is nice having things that come back every year.

Kim: But it looks stupid, and ugly and it over powers everything else.

Alan: Leave it. I like it. It looks like it is going to flower soon!

------

I eventually give in and leave it. It is extremely ugly. It had never flowered... until this year... :)

On Thursday, I grinned to myself, took the following 2 photos and stayed quiet.

On Friday, with his head held low, Alan approached me.

------

Alan: I think I'm going to cut down that plant.

Kim: Now, why would you do that?

Alan: I think it is a cocklebur plant.

Kim: (*Trying not to smile, too big) Oh, Okay.

I think he enjoyed cutting it down a bit much. However I let him have his fun, being I won this one ;)

Weekend Flair #17 - Baby Shower Invites

With my sister Carrie having her first baby in July, I have been working on planning a baby shower! :)

After chatting with her a bit about it, and confirmation on having a boy, we decided on a "FireTrucks" theme and to invite the guys to her house for grilling and the ladies to another location for whatever I planned. After this, she let me loose to do whatever. Dangerous! Hehe!

Other than having the shower invites made and mailed, I haven't gotten very far.

It was a long, step by step process which included printing...

Cutting with the Cricut (using Everyday Paper Dolls)...

 Stamping...

Using a round punch while the Cricut was busy with firetrucks and hydrants...

Recruiting Alan to help with various steps...

However having him help with embossing may not have been the best idea! :)

(though I have to admit, he only burnt a couple!)

We glued the trucks to the back of the printed invite.

What is your favorite baby shower activity?

Last Minute Valentine Card / Gift

Alan and I do not typically make a big deal out of Valentine's Day. We usually make a nice meal at home, exchanges cards and maybe a small gift, such as candy, and enjoy the evening watching a movie or playing a board game.

I do not anticipate this year to be any different. I however, procrastinated on making a card. I wanted it to be fun and different from the typical. I grabbed a Sharpie, pad of Post-Its, and my camera and went to work.

I started with these 2 photos:

I then wrote out a sticky note with a reason why, stuck it to something related, took a photo, and repeat.

Before getting too carried away, I wrote out these two.

Then thinking Dakota and Jaffery might want to say something...

I then quickly printed all the photos on our wonderful Canon printer (Alan was in the office doing homework, so I had to hang out so he didn't see what I was printing).

I then found ribbon, adhesive, and a couple pieces of 4x6 cardstock.
I first attached the cardstock on the ribbon, making one the "cover" and one the inside of the card. I then attached each photo on the ribbon, leaving a little bit of space between each photo to allow for folding everything together.

Here is what the final product looked like:
