spilling it all out

I'm frustrated...

I'm ticked off...

I'm tired...

I'm grumpy...

I'm ready for a vacation... wait... no, that is part of the problem!

Ha. Yeah. So My husband and I have been planning to go on our 5 year wedding anniversary trip. We only booked it a couple weeks ago, and we leave tomorrow. Yeah. Tomorrow.

I am not packed. Heck, the laundry isn't done and I have nothing to wear. I went a couple places after work to try to find a new shirt, or two and wasted way too much time trying on items that didn't fit right, didn't come in the right size, were ugly... IFrustrating.

The dishes are not done. I couldn't log into my NWA account to check my flight. There is not a number to call and talk to a real live person. Instead a "chat" room. It took me way to long to get it fixed. Frustrating.

The floors are dirty. My computer keeps crashing. I couldn't find our "change jar" with our year of change to cash for the trip (disappeared after the move and yeah, still not unpacked). The mail isn't sorted. Heck, one night of hotel isn't booked... yeah, Frustrating.

I keep being snippy with Husband. I don't mean to. (I'm sorry husband...). Things are just frustrating right now. I'm really trying to be patient and happy!

Plus Dakota isn't here. Yeah. See normally when I have a bad day and arrive home before husband, Dakota greets me with a huge smile and wag of his tail. He doesn't care I haven't had time to give him a bath in way to many days, or that the dishes are dirty, and my bank account is low. He doesn't judge me, tell me I shouldn't spend so much on scrapbooking supplies, or do the dishes more often. He is just happy to see me. Anyhow. Dakota went to spend time with family while we are out of town, and I miss him already.

*Deep breath*

Okay. So. Yes, we are going on vacation. I am very excited to get away and spend some much need time relaxing with Husband. I obviously am needing some time away...

Thus will not be posting for a bit. However please do not leave me! I need you all when I get back! I will have all kinds of stories to share, plus that big exciting news I continue to tell you about and never share... yeah, it IS really coming. I promise by the first weekend in June! :-)

Is your state represented?

Before our vacation, I picked up this license plate game for a couple dollars. During our vacation road trip, we were definately on the lookout for state plates! For only driving through a handful of them, we did really well!

Expanding my mind through travel

For about a week now, I have been teasing you all with promises of my vacation story. I even posted a a few pictures here. We had a great time. I like my vacations on the relaxing side, thus we always try to take our time, exploring...
Here is our approximate driving route:

We live in some obscure part of MN. Our first night was in Wisconsin Dells as we left late in the afternoon. The 2nd night was stayed in Port Huron, two rooms down from Eddie Money. The 3rd night near Kitchener, Ontario. On this day we made a few stops here and there. My favorites this day were the beach at Grand Bend and Southampton beach. We spent some of the later part the day searching for waterfalls.

The fourth day we saw a couple more falls, and then drove to Niagara Falls! It is amazing! If you have the chance to see it, do! We were able to do the tour behind the Horseshoe Falls. It was SO much fun, and we ended up soaked! We walked around for awhile and stayed for the fireworks show! We stay in Niagara Falls, NY.

On the 5th night Lake Erie State Park. This day we spent some time at the NY state Park around Niagara, and then headed down the shores of Lake Erie. We walked along the beach after setting up our tent. It was so peaceful. We even built a couple
inuksuks (I fell in love with these during my first trip to Canada... go ahead, google it... I'll wait, just don't forget to come back! Yeah, I realize it is a symbol of Canada and I was in NY... )!

After sleeping quite well on the tent, we spent a little more time on the beach, and then headed down the road. It ended up being a bit of driving, but did stop at the Cleveland Zoo for a couple hours. We have a MN zoo pass, which is valid at many other zoos, including Cleveland. However, the pass has my name on it and is valid for me plus one. This allows me to take my husband, a friend, or family member. We paid for 2 zoo members. Unfortunately, the Cleveland zoo didn't see it this way (even after we explained it, and showed our card which also explained it). I got in with my pass, however my husband had to pay. Ish.We didn't get to see everything there we wanted due to the closing time, however it was a nice zoo. My only complaint, other than my husband not getting in with our membership, would have to be the appartant construction of a highway/interstate through the middle of the zoo. I'm not sure what that is about. Seems strange to me. We spend the night in Hammond IN.

We spend our last day away from home, the 29th in Chicago and then driving the rest of the way home. We had a great time in Chicago! We rode to the top of the Sears tower, saw Buckingham Fountain, went to the Field Museum, and had deep dish pizza! The drive home was not as much fun as it rained into the night, however it was nice to sleep in our own bed!

Oh, we try not to eat fast food, but found out McDonalds has $1 ice cream cones. Needless to say, we had several throughout our trip

Here are a few more photos!

Sometimes, I forget where I live

As much as I love my job, I love when there is something going on off campus. I wouldn't want this to happen every day, or even a couple times a week, however now and then is a good thing.

Today I had an off campus (off my campus, but on another campus) workshop. As I was driving downtown to the other campus, I saw the masses of offices, condos, and other blocks of cement. I began thinking, "Huh, I live here?!" I live, go to school and work on the outside edges of the metro area. I never really see the sights of our downtown.

It's kind of sad. By forgetting where I live, I don't take advantage of everything the city has to offer. There are museums, gallaries, shops, trails, parks and theaters I have never seen, let alone stepped inside of.

Don't get me wrong, I have done a bit of exploring around here. Yet there is so much more to see and experience! I didn't grow up here. My family used to come here for VACATION! Now I live here and unfortunately have forgotten all the treasures within this metropolitan pocket.

I grew up in a town of 300 people. Yep. You read that correctly. Three hundred people. My graduating high school class was 16. :) And don't even think, "yeah, she just had to get in the car and drive 30 minutes to pick up the latest something or other". Nope. Not even close. The nearest large retail store was a solid 2 hour drive, and in a town populated by 14,000 folks. If we really needed an adventure, we traveled 4 hours to a city of around 130,000.

Now,
surrounded by a couple million people, living about 8 hours from where I grew up, I seem take all of the big city luxuries for granted. We have no immediate plans to move far away. Yet why long for a vacation when I have my entire corner of the world to explore!?
