Weekend Recap

Hello and welcome to Monday!

I am starting to feel like I haven't really posted for a long time! I have been doing so many memes (such as Friday Fill In, Menu Plan Monday and Thursday Thirteen), I haven't had a chance to do an update on what is going on!

We were able to figure out our tax situation (talked about here). We still owe, but only around $300. After tax season is over, we will be searching for a new accountant.

After helping with a mini scrapbook class on Friday, I wanted to dive in to my pile of photos and scrapbook into the night. Unfortunately instead, I spent most of Saturday cleaning my apartment. Between posting a few items to craigslist, and sweeping up dust elephants, I was able to sneak in a little time to make a baby card, which I promptly posted here for my Weekend Flair series!

Saturday was also the 29th. To celebrate, my husband and I went to Red Lobster! Yep, it was a huge treat. We were very grateful a gift card we had received for Christmas covered much of the cost. When eating out, I usually stick to something I know. I'm always afraid that if I would get something new, I won't like it and end up wasting food and/or money. However, I felt like being adventurous, and ordered the Rock Island Stuffed Tilapia! MMMM Good.
("Fresh tilapia roasted with crab-and-seafood stuffing and topped with langostino lobster meat in a creamy lobster butter sauce.")

I am so happy today is the last day of March! Only 39 days left until graduation! Plus, even though it is Snowing again, I'm still excited and hopeful for spring. In addition, it means my month of No New Stuff is nearly at it's end. It was a crazy month of not buying anything. I had moments of withdrawal, and did end up getting groceries with just a week to spare, however overall, I'm happy with how it turned out. I can only imagine all the money I saved by not picking up random things at the store. I am hoping this experience will help guide my (well, both my husband and my) shopping in the future.

Speaking of 39 days till graduation, I do not have a job. Previously, I spoke of my dream job opening up. However with the politics of student affairs, they are still in the process of sorting applications. I'm hopeful for an interview, but also working on applying to other jobs. I'm torn between the part time/full time job thing, and for the same reasons listed previously. I just don't know. What really concerns me is this decision will really impact the rest of my life. It will determine where my husband and I will live for the next 3-5 years (minimum), where we will start a family, what church we attend, what activities we are able to participate in, if I can pursue a part-time job in the arts... the list could go on and on!

That is all I can think of right now. Hopefully I covered everything!

Have a great week!

Deep Thoughts for Manic Monday

Manic Monday - March 10, 2008

What's your favorite thing to spend money on? I really like spending money on scrapbook stuff, and gifts. However, during the month of March, I have taken a vow to not by any new stuff!

If you could retire tomorrow what would you do? Nothing. hehe! :-) In reality, I would clean my apartment, scrapbook, visit friends and family and try to go on vacation asap!

Should anything be censored and if so, what and why? Yeah, there are a lot of things that should be censored. To mention one, video game violence. It really does impact kids. I could go on and on, but I'll leave it at that for now.

Oh, the weather outside

I am ready for spring. I want to wake to the birds chirping. I want to open my window and smell the freshly cut grass. I would love to put on my flip flops and go for a walk, smell the flowers, and eat ice cream.

I'm just not a winter fan. Sure, the snow is pretty, and I enjoy skiing, sledding and making snow people. However the fun quickly fades as the driving conditions are icky, I have to scrape my car windows every morning my husband scrapes my car windows every morning, and I can't go outside without 10 layers of clothes!

Anyhow...

I was getting restless staying in the last, well, long time. So my husband and I went for an afternoon drive. He didn't tell me where we were going, but I didn't care. I just wanted to get out of the house!

We ended up at a nearby waterfall! It was nearing sunset, so the photos aren't the best, but it was very cool (both cool/amazing and cool/cold!). I love how it is like a moment frozen in time...

As we rounded out the path, I was getting colder and colder. Then I heard the leaves and blurted out, "See, even the leaves are shivering!"

I found it strange that so many leaves were still on the tree. Tough little buggers.

Mmmmmm... hot chocolate

Until today, I had avoided the coffee shop craze. I'm not a coffee drinker so I suppose I didn't have a reason to stop and see what the fuss was all about.

Today I had a meeting at a local Caribou. I showed up a little early to scope the place out. Even though I don't like coffee, I find the smell of good coffee to be heavenly! The place smelled great. Looking at the menu, I was hoping there was something I could order so I wouldn't be the odd person out.

Then I saw it, "White Hot Cocoa" Mmmmmm. I love hot chocolate.

I looked around, and picked out a spot. After sipping my hot cocoa, and pulling some papers out of my binder, I scoped out the room. It was cozy. There was a fireplace, big fluffy chairs, and cute tables. It seemed comfortable, to everyone. A place where a bag pack and torn jeans could come together with business suits and expensive brief cases.

As I sipped my fancified hot cocoa, I notice the writing near the bottom of my cup.

"Life if short. Stay awake for it."

Interesting. Inspiring.
Even without caffeine. :-)
